Roles & Responsibilities

The Mayor and City Council act as the legislative and policy-making body of the City in accordance with the State Constitution and the Government Code. Their responsibilities include the following:

• Establish municipal policies
• Hold public hearings
• Review the City's General Plan
• Adopt resolutions
• Enact ordinances
• Set employee salaries
• Act on public improvement proceedings
• Review and approve the annual City budget
• Hear appeals on decisions of the administrative and advisory bodies
