I love the early 1900's history & styles
And it is the same for the 1920s. They, too, are on their way out, to be replaced by the far more sedate and conservative 1930s. There will be a decade or so of peace and growing prosperity, before Germany takes up its hammer and everything changes again. We will not see how this all affects the Crawleys, and we don't need to. This film boxes up their lives, and puts a nice ribbon on top; unlike the first feature film after the series ended, there is nothing left loose and dangling or in need of any explanation. We know they are all going to be just fine. Yes, we have to lose Violet--we knew we were going to lose her in the last film, so it's really no surprise. She's lived to see so many major things take place--we cannot fault any of the screenwriters for signing Violet out. As per usual, she still has the best lines of any of the characters, right up to the final one. They do her proud.
This film is a fitting and proper ending to a fabulous television series, a fabulous ensemble cast and a marvelous ending to the story of the Abbey and the Crawley family. Is it a truly great film? No, but that does not matter at all. It is the RIGHT film to have made. It may draw a tear or two at the end, but no worries--we weep as much for Violet as we do for knowing that we are not going to see the Crawleys again. They are finalized and perfected by this movie, and that is the best everyone could do.
Kudos to everyone involved from the actors to the writers to the entire crew--it is a proper final film, and you should be proud you have made it.
…wish the show were many, many more seasons
