Tituss Burgess is returning to Broadway as the new Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Schmigadoon! star will play the role of the Moulin Rouge Club owner for a limited engagement through Dec. 17. He fills in for Eric Anderson, who will return to the role on Dec. 19.
Burgess returns to Broadway after most recently appearing in the 2009 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls as Nicely-Nicely Johnson. He made his Broadway debut as Eddie in Good Vibrations and appeared in the original Broadway casts of Jersey Boys as Hal Miller and as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid.

On screen, Burgess is well-known for his role as Titus Andromedon in the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, as well as the narrator in the second season of Apple TV’s Schmigadoon. He has also starred in the Netflix films Set It Up and Dolemite Is My Name, as well as MGM’s Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect and the animated musical comedy series Central Park on Apple TV.
The musical, which is based on the Baz Luhrmann film, began playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in July 2019 and reopened in September 2021 following the shutdown of all Broadway theaters in March 2020. The show, which won the 2021 Tony Award for best musical, features direction by Alex Timbers, a book by John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine, which helped fill the score with many recent pop hits.
The current cast includes Courtney Reed as Satine, Casey Cott as Christian, Eric Anderson as Harold Zidler, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, David Harris as The Duke of Monroth, Ricky Rojas as Santiago and Sophie Carmen-Jones as Nini.
