The Parlophone Effect

#1 Post by Leonidas »

I am very happy to see the boys back on the label. I feel they need a gentle push when it comes to how they do things and having the financial muscle of Parlophone is also a huge help. Already we are seeing:

1. The return of videos for all the singles.
2. More formats to their album releases. I still feel there will be more versions of Nonetheless with instrumentals/remixes. A VF edition would be perfect.
3. More promotion, Neil the other day said it was their “duty”.
4. The return of an orchestra.

I also feel that as they were paid a lot of money to return to the label, there will be more regular album releases. Hence, also the above changes. They already have enough material for the next album and a Disco 5 is in the pipeline as well as hopefully another B sides album and a ballet has also been discussed. They may even finally release the Turing album!

These are just my thoughts. Sorry if already posted.

Smash was released on Parlophone, which was probably a sign of things to come.

Yeah it's looking good though we haven't had any vinyl singles yet. I doubt there'll be one for Bohemia as it's not a stomper. Maybe if there is a fourth single we'll get a PSB remix and a 12" release.

Don't want a Disco 5. It really is a redundant and nebulous concept, especially after 17/18 years.

There should never have been Disco 2,3 & 4. It sort of destroyed the concept of the original Disco. But I don't mind them releasing remix albums, which they have done several times:
Bilingual Remixed
Fundamentalism
etc.

Those together with Disco 2-4 could've been a separate level of album continuity.

I'm assuming there were some contractual obligations to do more promotion with Parlophone. I don't recall seeing this much promotion since the good old Imperial Phase days. They're flippin' everywhere right now.

It's the shot in the arm they really needed though.

I love Disco 3. It gave upgrades to Release tracks and showed how different the album could have been.
And at the end/ Your funny Uncle staring / At all your friends / With military bearing

I am really hoping that we get an instrumental version of ‘Nonetheless’.
Love Pet Shop Boys? You'd probably enjoy TIERGARTEN: https://linktr.ee/tiergartenmusic

I preferred the new tracks on Disco 3 to the remixes, to the point I just wish they'd left those off, done a few more new tracks and called it a new album instead.

The tracks on D3 were good but the Disco branding wasn't. They should have stuck with "London/Berlin" D2 should never have even been contemplated and D4 should have been called something else to allow for future instalments. It's a mess, I tell you, a mess :(

I want Brick England in a proper PSB release so I’m OK if that turns out to be Disco 5. Also really, really want the Turing project released or at least played again.

Pet Shop Boys are part of Parlophone again but now part of Warner Music and Warner Bros.

Don't you think it could be possible a movie in the future with hits of Pet Shop Boys. I really believe there is a possibility for that?. Not many groups have such a long music catalogue like PSB have. In fact, PSB songs are very cinematic and good for musicals.

The FL discs from Electric, Super and Hotspot will be packed with good stuff. BTW, there's a thread about it somewhere with potential tracklists.

Or a musical in a West End theatre. The story of Chris' life: falling asleep on different sofas, waking up and writing a perfect tune in five minutes.
