Doug Finlayson, partnership manager of the Hunts School Sports Partnership, writes about the NFL Flag Football - Cambridgeshire schools regional finals.
The Cambridgeshire NFL Flag Football Regional Finals, hosted by NFL UK and the Hunts School Sports Partnership, returned to One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre on Friday, May 17.
The event brings together an exhilarating showcase of young athletic talent, with the fast-paced, inclusive and easy to access format of American Football.
The event featured three competitive categories: Y5/6, Y7/8, and Y9/10 Girls, highlighting the growing popularity of flag football among young people and schools in Cambridgeshire.
With 26 teams and more than 225 children participating, the atmosphere was electric as teams battled it out for a coveted spot at the national finals at Loughborough University in June.
The day’s action-packed matches demonstrated impressive skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion at the national level.
Huge congratulations to all teams for their outstanding performances. The Final results and Champions were:
Year 5/6 Champions - Houghton
Year 7/8 Champions - Abbey College
Y9/10 Girls Champions - Hinchingbrooke
Primary Schools: Barnack, Brampton, Bury, Cromwell, Crosshall Junior, Holywell, Houghton, Little Paxton, St Helen’s, St John’s, Thomas Deacon, Warboys, Westfield Junior, Winhills, Winyates and Wyton.

It was fantastic to welcome back the NFL UK team for another special Cambridgeshire Flag finals.
The participants will remember the day for years to come. I’m already looking forward to next year as we continue to grow Flag Football within schools across Cambridgeshire.
Congratulations to the three winning schools; Houghton, Abbey and Hinchingbrooke. We look forward to hearing how you get on at the national finals. From everyone here, we wish you good luck.
