Information:

Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett wrote Puppet on a String for Elvis's 1965 film Girl Happy. Elvis recorded the song at Radio Recorders in June or July 1964. The single release reached #14 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, remaining on the chart for ten weeks. Puppet on a String reached #3 on the Easy-Listening chart. Some sources credit the song with selling over a million copies.
