Yes, we have a lot of fights but it's not always a gigantic weekly occurrence. Yes, you will be met with an "Oh! You're from Westlake..." when people ask which school you are from. There is a massive weed issue, as the bathrooms will frequently REEK of it. Those with sensitive noses will hate having to go pee. The school has an incredibly big emphasis on getting scholarships and applying for colleges. They offer Early College, Dual Enrollment, and other career readiness programs that are highly beneficial, although limited in what it is that is offered amidst those programs. There are a good amount of clubs offered here, it's just that you have to pay attention if you want to actually know about them and attend them. Our athletics make it obvious that the coaches put a lot of their love and passion in the sport into coaching the students, even if they don't listen. If athletics and clubs aren't your thing, I recommend the band or theater, both are great places.
I started attending Westlake High School in November of 2023. In this short time, I have gotten to talk to students and see what they like and dislike about the school. I have had the opportunity to experience it for myself and have made my observations. Westlake is the definition of a melting pot. Everyone is accepted for who they are and their differences are celebrated. Westlake has fun activities and incentives regularly to keep students involved and motivated. The food is not the greatest so I bring my lunch daily. When I attended Gwynn Park High School they didn't allow us to heat our food making lunch options limited, I love that Westlake allows students to warm up our food. Overall my experience has been positive and Westlake is the best school that I have attended during my years as a high school student.
The school is decent but definitely not the best school in the county. There is a lack of teachers so some classes are online, and those online teachers tend to not be good. For example, my AP Physics class is online and my teacher doesn't teach. It's almost entirely self paced.
