A 21-year-old man was taken to the lockup following an incident in downtown St. John’s overnight.
Police were patrolling the area shortly after midnight when an intoxicated man opened the back door of the cruiser and jumped in.
Paramedics were called to help the man, but once he was inside the ambulance police say he became aggressive and started to fight everyone.
Officers struggled to control the man, using pepper spray to subdue him.
He was held for court and charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.
