The Fall sequel just took an exciting leap forward, as the filmmaking duo behind horror flick Jigsaw, Michael and Peter Spierig, are now set to helm the survival thriller. The Spierig Brothers will direct Fall 2, the second of three-planned installments in the franchise, with Scott Mann, who directed and co-wrote the first movie, set to return to once again co-write alongside Jonathan Frank.

In a statement to Variety, Michael and Peter Spierig declared their excitement over telling a new story in the Fall franchise.

“We’re extremely excited to helm the second installment of this franchise and bring to life another nail biting, vertigo inducing thrill ride.”

Scott Mann, meanwhile, added that he is “proud” to hand the series over to The Spierig Brothers, and cannot wait to see what they come up with.

“I am so proud to hand over the reins to the Spierigs, two highly respected genre directors whose addition will undoubtedly make this follow-up even more of a must-see experience than we already knew it would be.”

Directing duo The Spierig Brothers are best known for helming the 2009 sci-fi horror movie Daybreakers starring Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, and Willem Dafoe, after which they reunited with Hawke for the delightfully twisty sci-fi thriller Predestination. Their other credits include the zombie outing Undead, the supernatural horror movie Winchester starring Helen Mirren, and Jigsaw, the eighth installment in the Saw franchise.

It was announced towards the end of last year that Fall will now become a trilogy, with the sequels due to “bring back original characters from the first film, while also leaving room for new ones to be introduced.” Capstone Studios will handle both Fall 2 and Fall 3, with Scott Mann on board as a producer on both sequels, as well as co-writing and possibly returning to direct the third installment in this new thriller trilogy. Mann said at the time...

“I am thrilled to be continuing the Fall journey and taking it to the next level. We’ve got a really special cinematic experience planned and I’m immensely grateful to my fellow producers for backing the vision. I’m also excited to be working with new collaborators as well as reuniting with the original gang, and obviously can’t wait to be back filming thousands of feet up.”
