Though crowdfunding and controversy may have been what defined the game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance aimed to be a historical recreation of the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, vassal state of the Holy Roman Empire. In that regard, at least, it is mostly a success.

The Holy Roman Empire lasted a pretty long time, though, almost 1,000 years, and the medieval period has quite a lot of technological diversity across its existence. Thankfully, that same dedication to historical accuracy makes it fairly easy to pinpoint exactly when Kingdom Come: Deliverance takes place.

In What Year Does Kingdom Come Deliverance Take Place?

The Holy Roman Empire is said to have begun in the year 800 with the crowning of Charlemagne, and ended in 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars. That is approximately 1,000 years for Kingdom Come: Deliverance to take place, and its events occur much closer to the dissolution of the empire, long after its borders had already started to dwindle.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance begins in the year 1403 in the Kingdom of Bohemia. This area itself was an Imperial Elector of the Holy Roman Empire and was viewed quite favourably at large. Even the town Henry comes from, Skalitz, is an actual town of Bohemia which exists in modern Czechia.

For a game based so heavily on realism, the passage of time can feel long and arduous. Indeed, every day can feel like it takes an entire day, humorously enough. True again to the dogmatic attention to realism, the game takes place over a relatively short period. Outside of the major events depicted at the game's outset, much of what occurs otherwise is quite personal to Henry's own tale.

As such, the time that canonically passes within the game is never outright sad. Realistically, it all takes place over a short few months at most, never enough to pass into major other historical events that would have occurred in the Kingdom of Bohemia or the Holy Roman Empire at large.
