Highlights

  • Helldivers 2 are unhappy with the latest Warbond, taking aim at the game's armor variants.
  • Reddit user Nacostaart has called on Arrowhead to "do better" after comparing two similar pieces of armor, one of which has only really been colored differently.
  • Helldivers 2 fans have also convinced themselves that this is the reason a transmog/color palette system hasn't been implemented yet.

After what has probably felt like the longest week ever for Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios, we saw the release of the Polar Patriots Warbond. Unfortunately for Arrowhead, that's brought forth a wave of entirely different problems, as satisfaction with this month's Warbond is at an all-time low.

Many players have been complaining about Polar Patriots being pretty disappointing, lacking creativity and something to spice up gameplay, but now fans have turned their attention to the armor variants that Arrowhead is releasing. In a post on the Helldivers 2 subreddit calling on Arrowhead to "do better," Reddit user Nacostaart has posted two images of different armor sets in Helldivers 2, though you'd be forgiven for thinking they're the same as the only thing that has really changed is the color.

Fans have noted that Arrowhead can be a little cheeky when it comes to releasing very similar armor sets in different colors, but Nacostaart is calling the developer out this time as they think it's "one of the worst" in regard to changes from the original design. They're not the only one getting increasingly fed up with this sort of problem too, as there are hundreds of fans echoing their complaints.

Helldivers 2 Fans Just Want Transmog And Color Palettes

You also have several rather cynical people pointing to this as evidence as to why Helldivers 2 is yet to get a transmog system or the ability to change the color of your armor, claiming Arrowhead is simply putting different color armor variants in the Warbonds to help pack them out. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt explained last month that it's actually because equipment has different effects, so transmog isn't feasible, but it's an excuse that has never quite sat right with players.

Others are also warning that this problem will only get worse if Arrowhead sticks to its monthly Warbond schedule, something that quite a lot of fans would like to reduce the amount of if it means that more creative and meaningful additions will be included upon release. While Helldivers 2 does a lot right on the live service front, its current model is clearly getting stale, whether that be due to time constraints or a lack of meaningful ideas. Hopefully, Arrowhead takes the criticism on board and the game's next Warbond is something we can all get excited about.
