You get a lot of space, but the units are very old and very dusty. I never really liked my unit, and I knew I wanted to move out within the few months of living there. The units are just very old. There is paint splatter all over the floors, and it makes the apartment permanently feel dirty. The furniture is very dark and I found it very gloomy. I spent as little time as possible in there cause of this.
The good things
You get a lot of space (it’s gotten a lot more expensive though, so I’m not sure if it’s still worth it)
maintenance responds promptly
Amazon locker in garage
cheap parking if you have a car
are there any significant mold/bug problems? I heard Ramblers next door had that happen this school year
I haven’t had any mold or bug problems. During cricket season you’ll see someone on the first floor, but I lived on an upper floor and didn’t see many. But I think this is common in the apartments that have outdoor hallways. But in general, I don’t think 26 west has mold or bug problems.
Look up grand Marc in this subreddit… it’s had a lot of problems with mold. I think rambler as well.
our unit was filled with roaches of varying size 💀... we had to ask for pest service several times before they were gone. Honestly, try not to get a unit on the ground floor imo otherwise, it's game over (we didn't have a choice 😓).
also how are the prices relative to more center wampus (22 23 24 Street etc)
It’s probably cheaper since it’s farther away from campus
p sure roughly the same this upcoming year (they increased bc of the influx of apartments recently) but no significant mold/bug problems that im aware of. rambler has so many issues bc it was built in like 5 months and opened like 3 months late LMAO 26 west is one of the older apartments
It’s been a minute since I left 26 best, but:
Pros - proximity to campus, proximity to most of WC in like a 5-10 min walk, big enough to “blend in” with the crowd. We (and neighbors) smoked a lot inside and had zero issues over the 2 years, no complaints with playing music or throwing parties, and our neighbors were chill so it was a good hallway vibe overall
Cons - you will have to escort every guest in and out of the property as it’s a fucking maze
Great location. Heart of west campus.
No complaints! I pay 1000 for a 4x2 so pretty good pricing. Slight mold but not enough to make you sick. I haven't seen roaches/serious bugs but we do get fruit flies every so often. Also it's conveniently right on the 642 line and close to the food trucks.
Rooftop basketball court. It’s all u really need.
I’m pretty positive more non residents sneak in and use it than actual residents lol
Not a fan of the dim lighting
rates are going up sadly but it was a fine school year there; rooms were a lot more plentiful in size and it was only 5 minutes from campus, and closer to the engineering side
Old and dirty units, but with a little work and effort it can be cute and alright to live. I’ve lived there for 2 years and will be there for another cause it’s easier to renew but there has been some bug problems, and our ceiling in the bathroom busted open and was leaking some type of liquid maybe from the sprinkler system. Everyone has a different experience but it’s been eh for me.
Good distance from campus though and the bus stop for bus 642 being right in front of the apartment has saved me this past semester w my 8 am’s in the stadium 5 days a week 🙂
i graduated in 2020 but quarters nueces goated
I had a room on the first floor with my window facing the street. I could hear every conversation from drunk kids at 3 am in the morning
I've lived there for the past few years! Overall, I would rate it 7/10. It's not the best apartment complex in West campus, but it certainly is the best quality for the lowest price.
I'm currently paying 1,060 WITH parking and utilities a month, which is 300-600 cheaper than any other place I could find.
If you end up renting, don't face the street or the dog park. I face inwards towards the pool and it can be loud sometimes, but honestly it's not bad. I've only ever had issues with lights going out and our toilet being weird, but we put in a service request and they are on it! Our staff that works in and around our complex is so great, and Alan is the best!
Our amenities are not bad either! The fitness center is good (it can get busy but is closer that Greg Gym), our pool and hot tub are very nice, and we have a dog park! Unreserved parking is not that bad imo, it's what I have and I always find a spot on my floor. It's $65. Apparently we have a basketball court as well? I've never used it.
People can be loud, but that's like any other apartment complex. Honestly its not that different from other complexes other than it is a bit older (2012) and has darker finishes. The appliances are older but its WORTH it in my opinion. Everywhere else in WAMPUS truly is overpriced for no reason. I used to live at Villas on Rio and while I do miss the view, 26 West feels homier. Also, it's harder to get guests in than other complexes because there are a lot of gates and needing a fob to get into everything. Also, we have like three or four buildings and like another commenter said, it really is a maze.
In terms of Campus, its SUPER close to Moody! It takes me seven minutes from leaving my apartment to stepping into the DMC. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Co-op/Union, and 30 to the stadium. The nearest food to us is Kerbey Lane, Cabo Bobs, Pizza Press, and the food trucks on 26th!
Overall it's not bad but not great. Kind of right in the middle but the cheap prices make it worth it.
Big units, fine if you don’t mind not having any of the fancy amenities but floors are so dirty so don’t walk around in your socks. We are constantly cleaning the floors and they won’t come clean.
Overpriced and gross, had to wear socks everywhere no matter how much I swiffered or else my feet would be BLACK after 10ft. The gym is kinda nice. I paid ~$1000 for my space in a 4 bed 2 bath ~1000sq ft in 2022-2024. They jacked the rent to $1200 with no improvements. We moved to the Dessau area and just commute now and it’s WAY nicer.
Also we had problems with the fire alarm going off (over winter break my roommate was staying there and had to go sleep at her friends for 2 nights) and people having parties in the alley way between the buildings at 2am with no way to make a noise complaint.
Looks like a crowded, noisy, too many neighbors, no privacy kind of place. I would hate it.
I did. Mental heath improved so much after I moved tbh
