After eight years at FC Bayern, it’s time for Robert Lewandowski to say farewell. The Polish striker, who’s made history in various competitions with his countless goals, is leaving Munich and joining FC Barcelona. fcbayern.com looks back at eight moments from Lewandowski’s eight glittering years at FCB.
30 August 2014: The first of 344
Following his move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern in summer 2014, Lewandowski bagged his maiden goal for FCB on Matchday 2 of the 2014/15 season against FC Schalke 04. After a pass from Sebastian Rode, Lewy celebrated in a Bayern shirt for the first time in the 10th minute of the match - the start of an illustrious spell. Eight years later, the striker has an incredible 344 competitive goals for the Munich club to his name.
22 September 2015: Five goals in nine minutes
In the home match against VfL Wolfsburg in September 2015, it wasn’t looking good for Bayern at half-time as they trailed 1-0. Coach Pep Guardiola brought on Lewandowski at the break, and in the space of a few minutes, history was written. Lewy scored the fastest hat-trick in Bundesliga history in just three minutes and 22 seconds, but the FCB number nine wasn’t done there and made it five goals in only nine minutes. An unprecedented record! Thanks to him, Bayern ran out 5-1 winners.
2015/16 season: First double & first cannon
Lewandowski not only won his first league and cup double with Bayern in the 2015/16 season, but was also the Bundesliga top scorer for the first time as an FCB player with 30 goals. In his eight years in Munich, Lewy has claimed the top scorer cannon prize six times, including in each of the last five seasons - what a run!
2019/20 season: Lewandowski makes UCL history
Lewandowski secured himself another entry in the history books in the penultimate group match of the 2019/20 Champions League against Red Star Belgrade. After Leon Goretzka opened the scoring, the Bayern frontman scored four goals in the space of just 15 minutes, the fastest four-goal haul in the history of the competition. The Munich men won 6-0 in the end to clinch first place in the group - an important step on the way to the European title.
2020: The sextuple
2020/21 went down as the most successful year in FC Bayern’s history, and Lewandowski was instrumental in the club’s historic clean sweep of six titles with his total of 57 goals (34 Bundesliga, 15 Champions League, 6 DFB Cup and 2 FIFA Club World Cup). Bayern became only the second club after Barcelona to win six trophies in the space of one year
2020/2021: Exceptional achievements honoured
As the crowning of his brilliant performances for Bayern, Lewandowski was named The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2020 and 2021. He also received the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award in 2020. These accolades serve to underline the class of this one-off striker.
2020/2021 season: Lewandowski breaks the unbreakable record
What’s more, Lewandowski broke a record which had long been regarded as untouchable. On the final day of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign, he netted his 41st goal of the season, breaking the 17,885-day old record set by Bayern legend Gerd Müller. As a result, the Pole was honoured with the Golden Shoe award by the European Sports Media, where he also came out on top last season with 35 goals.
Summer 2022: End of a glorious era
In the last match of last season, Lewy scored the last of his 344 competitive goals in eight years for Bayern. His trophy collection is also impressive to say the least: he collected 19 titles during his time in Munich. We say: thank you, Robert Lewandowski!
