She's been a fan favorite since The Vampire Diaries, and Nina Dobrev has been practically everywhere since she quit the show. She's worked on TV series, films, and doesn't show any signs of stopping. While many fans think her career could have hit higher heights by now, Nina is definitely popular enough to set the internet buzzing every time she steps outside.

The only problem is, people are buzzing about the potential that Nina Dobrev has had plastic surgery. The interesting news? One fact might prove them wrong.

Updated on April 6, 2022: While there will always be rumor and speculation about celebrities getting plastic surgery, Nina Dobrev has been the subject of rumors for another reason recently: her relationship with Olympian Shaun White. Almost since the two first went public with their relationship, rumors have been swirling about a possible engagement. Back in April 2021, when they had been dating for less than a year, Us Weekly published a report that couple was nearing an engagment. In 2022, while White was competing in the Olympics, Dobrev fielded more questions about a potential engagement, but her only response to the prying interviewer was "nice try." While Nina Dobrev might be bother by all the speculation about her love life, it's probably safe to say that she prefers these rumors to those about her getting plastic surgery.

Fans Think Nina Dobrev Changed Her Appearance

A homely wig and various makeup effects (like some intense eyebrows) didn't help Nina Dobrev's appearance when she last graced the set of The Vampire Diaries. At the time, fans were trying to pinpoint exactly why Nina looked different, and what might have happened to her looks since she last appeared as Elena Gilbert (and Elena's various doppelgängers).

Fans theorized that Nina had actually undergone plastic surgery while she was away from the set, pursuing other Hollywood opportunities.

Some speculated that she had surgery to lift her eyes, but the theories didn't stop there. Redditors were happy to pick apart photos of Nina Dobrev over the years, and one unrelated forum on beauty and aesthetics also made a laundry list of potential procedures they thought the star might have had.

Fans listed everything from "her eating disorder" (Nina has clapped back at body shamers in the past) to "chain-smoking" to "jaw, lip and cheek filler" as potential reasons for Nina's change in appearance.

The critic from the beauty and aesthetics forum suggests that Nina Dobrev's plastic surgery was botched, too; they theorize that Nina wanted to change her face shape and should have instead gone for "procedures that made her face more harmonious."

It's a lot of almost obsessive examination of photographs of Nina Dobrev's 'pre and post plastic surgery' look, with some commenters outright saying "she looks pretty bad now." But maybe there's a different explanation for Nina's changing looks that has nothing to do with vanity or plastic surgery at all.

Nina Dobrev Has Admitted To Having A Lot Of Allergies

While it's probably awful enough to be the subject of eating disorder rumors, Nina Dobrev also has to deal with people picking apart her appearance in every single photograph that's taken of her. The roughest thing about it is Nina has admitted to having allergies that impact, among other things, her looks.

In fact, in 2019, Nina's close friend Julianne Hough shared an Instagram story about winding up in the emergency room with a friend of hers. That friend was Nina Dobrev -- laid up in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask on, looking quite disheveled.

But it wasn't plastic surgery recovery that Nina was in for; she had a reaction to something and went into anaphylactic shock.

In Julianne's story, Nina had an oxygen mask obscuring her face and Julianne also put a sunglasses emoji over her face. But in later photos that Nina shared from home, her skin was blotchy, her eyes were swollen to the point where her eyelids had multiple creases, and she generally looked unwell.

As most fans know, anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction, and in Nina's case, she swells up intensely. Fortunately, after a brief hospital stay, Nina posted another selfie that showed the "swelling is basically gone" and she was back to normal.

But the snapshots had fans freaked out at first, because Nina looked so ill. Thinking about the various photographs of Nina over time that some say suggest she's had plastic surgery, it does seem like there's another potential explanation.

What If Nina Dobrev's 'Plastic Surgery' Was Actually Just An Allergic Reaction?

Given Nina Dobrev's clap back to a fan who accused her of having an eating disorder, it's clear she doesn't tolerate body shamers of any type. And based on her perspective on bodies and health in general, it seems very unlikely that she would go under the knife.

It's especially unlikely that she'd do it for the sole purpose of progressing her career (just one of many fan theories on why Nina might've had procedures done).

So what if it all really comes down to mild or severe allergic reactions? If Nina's allergies are as severe (and varied) as she suggested, it's possible that she's very susceptible to things like pollen and other environmental irritants.

She may even get a bit puffy-faced when heading outside and smelling the flowers or breathing in the city's smog.

Of course, that's not as interesting a prospect to fans (and critics) as the potential that Nina Dobrev might have had plastic surgery. Because it seems that no matter how good-looking fans think a celebrity is, a lot of fans will still want to pick apart their appearances and claim that there's something unnatural about having a Hollywood face.

Maybe the joke is on them after all, and the super-attractive people in Hollywood are in Hollywood because of their natural looks, not because they've had surgical procedures to stay "in."
