Default 2.7 vs 3.3

What are the pros and cons? I've researched the 2.7 quite a bit but don't know much about the new 3.3 and how they compare?

Thank you,

Pros and cons all depend on what you plan to do with the truck. Will you ever carry payload in the bed? How much? Will you ever tow? How much would you tow? All these questions can also be answered by looking at their payload and tow ratings. If you'll never tow, or tow very light weights, then maybe the 3.3 is best for you. If you want something with better acceleration and more towing capability, go with the 2.7

https://www.fleet.ford.ca/resources/...-Towing-EN.pdf

Be aware that there is a misprint in the towing guide. Page 20 is supposed to be 5th wheel towing but it's a repeat of page 18's conventional towing rates. So don't go by anything on page 20 for 5th wheel towing.

The 3.3 RCSB impresses me with it's towing capability. I think we are going to be hearing good things about this new engine. Lots of power difference between those 2 engines, tho.

This. All good engines. Is the extra power worth the $...to YOU. To me, it's yes.

Agreed. To me the $995 upgrade from the 3.3L to the 2.7L EB is the best bang for the buck you can get on these trucks if you are buying a V6...

I could not agree more. I had a loaner 2018 with the 2.7 for a day. It drives like a V8 and I averaged 24mpg...
I am currently working with my dealer on a number for a truck with this motor.
Keep in mind that the 5.4 3V was 310HP & 365Tq.
The 2.7 at 325HP & 400Tq is downright sexy for a small displacement V6. Coupled with the 10 speed... I'm in love.

That being said, 290HP 265Tq is not such a slouch for a NA motor. However like was said above, if you plan to tow anything ever or carry some weight, the +135tq will be your best friend.

You won't regret it! My 2015 2.7 is rolling past 90k now and I love it. Mind you I have the "1st gen" with 6-speed transmission but I've had zero problems, tows good, good low rpm torque and fantastic mileage. Would definitely buy again!

How has your economy fared over time?

I am actually comparing two trucks one with the 3.5 & another with the 2.7. My Expedition with the 3.5 burns a little too much for my commute. It's a 2017 with the 6 speed though.

The current leader is a shadow black XLT 2.7 s-crew 3.55:1 rear. I could not get over the power of the 2.7.

I also would like the 6.5 bed. Looks like I'm limited to the 5.5 bed in 4x4 with the 2.7 on the s-crew.

Very pleased. Gets much better after the break-in period. My first 30k averaged 22.2 MPG but that included a cold Canadian winter, so that meant steel rims with winter tires, remote starting, winter gas, driving in 4x4 in deep snow etc... Summer time is much better and I hit 26+ on the highway which is a lot of my driving. I also tow a 5k travel trailer that's 8ft wide, 7ft tall on flipped axles with a flat front so it's not aerodynamic at all, and I get between 10-12.5 MPG depending on wind mostly.

Thank you,
Also, keep in mind, the 2.7 comes with the 10 speed, 3.3 still only gets the 6 speed. Some like the 6 speed better.
