    Apex, Cary, Wake county questions

    Hey guys,

Would someone mind PM'ing me who has working knowledge of the PD'a surrounding Raleigh? Have an extensive list of questions I'd like to ask as I'm considering transferring from NY to NC...

Would like gain a point of contact that will give me more blunt/honest answers than a recruitment officer

    Thanks in advance,

    -Sean

If you click on your screen name at the top a drop down menu will show and one of the choices is settings, click on that. On the left side of the page will be a list on menus. Click on My Settings, scroll down and turn on private messaging. That should do it. I am not computer savvy enough to be an expert, but if you keep clicking buttons, it will make it better! LOL

Also have knowledge of the area/agencies. Feel free to send a message to me as well. Work with a guy who just moved from NYPD.

New York might as well Annex Cary at this point. Good luck though, great area to work.

and of course NC has a bunch of halfbacks living here...

They move from the north to Florida, realize how hot it is down there, then move here...half back to NY.

I joke around, but I luv you guys!

I have questions as well. I am interested in applying for NC Highway Patrol and Raleigh Police Department. I noticed that the Highway Patrol has a maximum age of 40, but I didn't see any max age for Raleigh PD. Is there one?

"REQUIREMENTS: • Must be 21 years of age at the time of graduation from theRaleigh Police Academy. • No maximum age restriction."

Literally the blurb under the first response on Google.

States down South don't usually have age restrictions as long as you can do the job. That's why many officers from up North come down here after they retire.

I am also looking into info for the Cary PD. I saw on their website that you need prior LE experience to be hired but I was wondering is there a written test and how is the process after that? Would be interested in relocating.

Cary does not require prior LE experience. They require you to be currently in a BLET course or have certification from BLET, or be prior LE from another jurisdiction/out of state. Last I heard, they are looking to fill about 20 open positions. Written test is pretty much the same as other departments in NC, basic reading/writing comprehension. It's nothing to sweat if you have education above the 10th grade level.

Do you know if they have a fast process or not? I'm a NYC Peace Officer so I have about 5 years out of state LE experience.

Peace officer or sworn law enforcement officer? I know up north it's relatively the same, but down here they do not look at corrections the same as someone who enforces the law.

Cary doesn't run its own academy/curriculum. You would need to call the office for the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission in order to find out how much of your out of state certification will transfer over. From there, you may need to find a BLET at a local community college or larger department that runs its own academy to sit in on the courses you need.

When I went through basic law enforcement training here, we had a former Trooper from somewhere up north that had to sit in on a few courses and take the state exam before he was certified to work in NC. As soon as he was certified, he was hired at the agency he applied for.
