"The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" is the best performing Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise track, entering and re-entering multiple Billboard charts since its release.
- More than 2.5 million copies were sold in three weeks, the fastest selling record in 1958.[1]
- The song charted #1 on the Hot 100 December 22, 1958 and maintained its position for four weeks before falling in 1959.[2]
- The song remained the only holiday-themed song to ever chart #1 on the Hot 100 until December 2019; Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" finally reached #1 on the chart 61 years later, 25 years after her song's original release.[3]
- The song was nominated for four Grammy awards in 1959, winning three in the categories of Best Recording for Children, Best Comedy Performance, and Best Engineered Record, Non-Classical, with the fourth nomination being Record of the Year.[4]

Trivia[]
- Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. finished writing the song on November 7, 1958.[6]
- Three versions of the song were created before the Bagdasarian family decided on only one to be released: an instrumental, one called "In a Village Park," and "The Chipmunk Song."[1]
- This is the first song to officially be credited to The Chipmunks and is their musical debut.
- Alvin recites part of the first stanza in "Yankee Doodle," before being cut off by Dave.
- A Smokey Bear radio PSA from 1975 featured The Chipmunks thanking people for preventing forest fires by singing to the tune of the song.
- In the special A Chipmunk Christmas, "Time for toys" is replaced with "Time for joy."
- In the episode Merry Christmas, Mr. Carroll, "The Chipmunk Song" was shown to be made by the presents they gave Dave (pencil, eraser, and a piece of paper).
- The version used on The Alvin Show is the original, but with slightly re-recorded vocals. The singing is done in a slightly more staccato manner; only the dialogue is unchanged. This version was released on the K-Tel album, Looney Tunes (no relation to Warner Bros' cartoon series) from 1976.

- In the 2009 film Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the possums Crash and Eddie sing the first line of the song when they find out that their voices are high pitched.
- Glee performed a cover in the episode Previously Unaired Christmas released December 5, 2013.
- Leo Moracchioli released a metal cover version, with a puppet named Leo, on December 3, 2021.
- Pentatonix & Bryson Tiller collaberated to release a cover version, with some minor lyric modifications, on December 16, 2021.
