Piedmont Hills High School Reviews

Piedmont Hills High School (PHHS) offers a lot of AP classes and few honors classes (mainly English). There are many clubs, especially for volunteering and cultural clubs. Although, PHHS has many diverse clubs, there are frequent issues regarding bigoted language within the school and a lack of consequence for this language, from what I have seen. The school attempted to correct this with a school-wide lesson but didn't really explain the significance, so I haven't seen much change. Many students though still create inclusive environments and communities, including in GSA club and cultural clubs, and I currently participate in Diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) and Juggling Club, which is really fun! There are a lot of electives to choose from, and there are also a lot of college prep courses you can take like journalism and AP seminar. We have a wellness center and counselors available to support students mental health, and counselors keep in touch with those struggling.
The bathroom rules are strange, all the bathrooms would be locked during class times except for 1, and we wouldn't know which one so we would have to go to each one to find out. The school lunches are okay. I liked the mental health center and resources they havelike the wellness center. I dislike the fact that students who defend themselves when another student attacks them will face the same consequences as the attacker, which is suspension.
My experience with Piedmont Hills has been really eye opening to me. I was first accepted into PHHS in fall of 2021 as a freshman. I firstly joined the volleyball team because many people I asked about starting high school told me to join a club or a sport and I was so exciting so I did. This decision led to many friendships still going strong to this day which I'm very proud of. I went from an extremely shy middle schooler to a freshman actively seeking out relationships with other people. My school environment greatly helped with this seemingly new personality change. I was very lucky to have teachers to help bring me out of my shell and encourage me to try new things. One teacher in particular, my Spanish teacher, encouraged me to try to take and AP Spanish class. Even though I will not be participating in this class, it helped to have someone think that I could achieve that class.
