Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has shared an update on her health.
The royal—who was diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer over the summer—shared over the weekend that she has now also been diagnosed with skin cancer.
“I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was,” she captioned an Instagram photo of herself on a bridge, overlooking a creek.
The duchess added that, naturally, her second cancer diagnosis “has been a shock,” but said she is “in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”
Elsewhere in her message, Sarah urged people to regularly check their skin for new moles, paying attention to their size, shape, and color.
“I am incredibly thankful to the medical teams that have supported me through both of these experiences with cancer and to the MAYRLIFE Clinic for taking gentle care of me in the past weeks, allowing me time for recuperation,” the duchess wrote. “I am resting with family at home now, feeling blessed to have their love and support. ❤️🩹”
Sarah is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, King Charles’s younger brother. The two, who married in 1986 and split in the ’90s, share daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Despite their divorce, the Duke and Duchess of York live together in the Royal Lodge, on the Windsor estate.
