2024 All-ACC Softball Awards Unveiled

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season champion Duke earned four end-of-season awards, while Florida State claimed one to highlight the 2024 All-ACC Softball honors, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Duke's Claire Davidson and Jala Wright were unanimously voted the ACC Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, while the Blue Devils' Aminah Vega was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Marissa Young earned Coach of the Year honors. All four annual awards were the first in Duke Softball program history.

Florida State's Jaysoni Beachum was unanimously voted the ACC Freshman of the Year. All four student-athletes earned a spot on the All-ACC First Team.

The awards and All-ACC Teams were selected following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Davidson started all 24 conference matchups for the Blue Devils, batting a league-best .507 in conference play with a 1.261 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. She also led the ACC with a 1.821 OPS. The senior tallied 13 home runs and 39 RBI to help lead Duke to its first regular-season ACC Softball title in program history. Davidson, a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, added nine doubles and three triples as her overall .423 batting average on the season ranks 28th in the nation.

In 75.1 innings of work in conference action, Wright leads the ACC with the most wins with nine over 16 appearances, posting a 9-0 record to pair with a 1.67 ERA. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native is one of three undefeated pitchers across the league. Wright, who struck out 147 total batters and compiled a 16-1 overall record this season, threw a complete game and secured a save while striking out a league-leading 83 batters in conference play. She was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week twice this season and, alongside Davidson, was named a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Wright's overall ERA of 1.15 on the season is the fourth-best in the nation.

Vega leads a Duke team that posts a .975 fielding percentage overall as she helped turn nine double plays with only three errors all season long. Her .990 fielding percentage and 43 putouts in ACC play were accompanied by just one error, following the historic season that saw Duke earn its first No. 1 ranking in a major poll in program history by Softball America on April 8.

Beachum earned Florida State's first ACC Freshman of the Year award since Sydney Sherrill in 2018 and is also the first student-athlete to earn an end-of-season award and a spot on both the All-ACC First Team and the All-Freshman Team since Clemson's Valerie Cagle in 2021. The Tallahassee, Florida, native joined both Davidson and Wright as a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year following her freshman campaign. Beachum posted a .425 batting average with five home runs and 25 RBI in conference play. She tallied 31 hits and scored 21 runs for the Seminoles, as well as posting a .959 fielding percentage at third base.

During Young's eighth season, the Blue Devils soared to new heights. Duke reached its first No. 1 ranking in program history from Softball America following back-to-back sweeps of Virginia Tech and Clemson, both then top-15 teams. The No. 1 ranking marked the first time this season that a team other than Oklahoma claimed the top spot in a major poll. The Blue Devils also secured their first conference regular-season title in program history following their 20-4 season and earned their first No. 1 seed in the 2024 ACC Softball Championship. Young recorded her 250th career win this season as Duke seeks its fourth-straight bid to the NCAA Championship.

The All-ACC First Team is organized by position, made up of four infielders, three outfielders, one catcher, three pitchers and four “at-large” selections. Pitchers on the All-ACC First Team voting process must have pitched at least 25 percent of the total innings pitched in conference games. Defensive position members on the All-ACC First Team must have played in at least 50 percent of the total conference games at those positions (infield, outfield and catcher).
