The ocean can sense your wrath, and it sympathizes.

VICIOUS. BROKEN. DETACHED.

Reign Auclair was drowning. In her hate, in her misery, and, worst of all, in her anger. Happiness and warmth are long gone from her life; she lives a mundane one. And the most noxious part is, she likes it that way.

Seven years is a long time, and it feels like an eternity when you are forced to live with a broken heart. Seven years; that's how long she has stayed away from her childhood best friend, Kenai Williams.

His name is enough to make her blood boil and open up past wounds. But what happens when he proposes a multi-million dollar construction project to end their family rivalry?

It doesn't matter how much she loathes or misses him. Above everything, she loves him. And for the life of her, she couldn't undo that.

CONFIDENT. PLEASING. LEVEL HEADED.
Kenai Williams embodies the best of both worlds. He loves and cares deeply, as he lives his life to the fullest. Everyone has regrets in their lives. And behind that smile, he hides one too.

Reign Auclair was his best friend and the first and only love of his life. He had never imagined a world without her. Even if she is far away, her presence lingers everywhere around him. A knowledge that she still exists, in the same world as him. And that's what burns the most.

But the feeling of having her so close to him yet so far away—it's pure torture. And the heart? It can't stay away any longer. She is his lifeline and hellfire rolled into one.

Stars fell when their hearts shattered. An untold past and unknown forces tore them apart.
Will Reign and Kenai ever meet halfway, or is theirs a love story meant to be written only in their unfulfilled dreams?

"There's no 'the end' in love"
AHH THIS BOOK HAS MY HEART
The story is so well written and structured
The plot of the story is how two childhood best friends lost each other and years later they find each other as generation rivalries and this is their story of how they fight their demons
The story is so well written, the control author has over the story is so balanced, and the narrative is so well-versed that one won't be able to put the book down.
I loved how the story unwraps and everything makes sense, it's not your random enemies to lovers. It's a book that will make your heart clench with pain but will also heal your heart.
The author has poured her heart into it and you can feel it. Every chapter is a page-turner and will take you in a different dimension the personality development of the characters is ethereal and somewhere you feel so connected with both the characters especially Reign, the way she carries herself is so elegant and her love for swimming and Kenai and her brothers make me so emotional. I freaking love her.
There's no one villain in this story, they're just bad people in another story.
This book has my heart and I feel like it healed my heart.

i was fortunate enough to be able to read the arc of both sweet melodies and head above water. as someone who had that privilege i’d love to state that wafiyah’s writing has improved very much.

i loved reading sweet melodies but i love this book way more. i love reign and kenai. i love that the female mc is badass.

throughout the book i was looking forward to know what was going to happen next, and never felt like the book was boring.

but i hate the fact that the author decided to torment us by leaving many questions unsolved - now i can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Thank you Wafiyah for providing me with an ARC <3

It’s safe to say that I hold this one dear to my heart. The main reason for that - which I totally did not expect - is because I see myself in Reign. Yeah yeah I know that sounds cringe, get over it. But it’s true.

And the fact that such mundane problems are portrayed in this book makes it all the better, because reading about someone I can relate even if it’s fictional, takes the guilt away even just for a minute.

And Kenai Williams? You are the freaking standard boy. Kanai is such a sweet, careful and considerate person. And not to forget the biggest simp for Reign lol.

Not only was the storyline great, the character development was so good. Experiencing Reign slowly accepting her past and letting people in was a great step for her. As well as for Kenai, who fought his demons and made peace for himself. I think that’s beautiful, because I do believe that a relationship is so much better to return to when you have found what you were looking for at life. That may be closure, peace or whatever.

I wish my head will finally be above the water too.

I kind of loved the storyline but the execution not so much

Topics were just brought up and dropped with no further explanation then brought up again later on in the book but still no explanation
And a lot of things were confusing like at the beginning of the book reign was described as someone that was a monster but I still didn’t get any monster vibe or action from her😕

Then the epilogue was the most confusing thing ever, we just dived into Anna being in a relationship happy for her but what
And I still don’t know who attempted to kill reign?? Did I mistakenly skip that part y’all let me know

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

What its about:
CEO, Reign Auclair, works together with Childhood Bestfriend and Rival, Kenai, on one last collaboration to end their long-term family feud.

My Thoughts
Great chemistry between the two MC with enough badass from Reign. I enjoyed the flowy plot and sweet sweet Kenai even though he pretty much simped for her.

Tropes:
*Rivals-to-Lovers
*Childhood Bestfriend
*Second-Chance
*Billionaire Romance
*Dual POV

“I will get you the moon if it lights up your face. I will get you the stars so you can twinkle a bit brighter, but I wouldn't get you the sun because you are the brightest one.’" - Kenai

📖 (Plot)
The plot itself was alright. There were some great and enjoyable parts which made me laugh and appreciate the character development. But there were also a few scenes which probably didn’t need to be there (filler?) and made me feel like I had to really push to finish some chapters. The themes in this book can be a little bit heavy as it talks about neglect, messed up family dynamics and violence. Nonetheless, Bashas writing has improved alot compared to her previous work (welldone ☺️).

👤 (Characters)
Reign: I loved her spirit and bad-assery here. Her CEO position and just overall ‘stubborn’ nature to be as ‘boss’ as she can Be. There were a few moments when I did question her young age and slight immaturity when it came to some of her decision making and reactions to certain situations. But I can see and appreciate how many women can also relate to her inner struggles and fire aswell.
Kenai: simp simp simp 😂 He was a cutie pie… full stop. The amount of times he confessed and straight up made his love so known was no joke. He did come across as a bit naïve though. Maybe I’m just not a huge fan of this type of guy but I still enjoyed their chemistry.
Side Characters: I absolutely loved Sophie and Annies adorable personalities 😍 Remy… I completely understand why he came across as a grump but I did find his personality here a bit annoying. But Im interested to see what he has in store for us in his book because Sabrina was just so cute!

🌶️ (Romance/Spice)
Definitely alot of forced proximity scenes throughout this book which worked in our MC’s favor. Sexual tension wise… not so much (so dont expect too much here guys). Nonetheless, the romance was cute but the story of self-redemption was better 🥰

I don't know what does the author mix in her books that makes the story so so addictive!!
It's my second book by her and I read it in one sitting 😍😍

Reign was a goddamn Queen and a champion at life. I love a fierce heroine and she straightout knocked it out of the park. She knew her worth, was so loving with people around her, her power, her sass and her entire being was so so heartwarming. She literally deserves the world and I'm so happy she got a man like Kenai.

Godd!! Kenai Williams is a masterpiece. He is so so loving, so sweet, adorable and his golden retriever personality and being obsessed with his girl made me blush so hard. Nobody can resist this man. I love him so so much.

Reign and Kenai have been apart for so long but they're chemistry is still there and it's blazing hot. The love, faith and bond they shared screams Perfect Soulmate Behaviour 💗💋

The story was so impactful and dealt with major issues like Mental Health and Anger Problems that were written in a masterful way so as to not burden the reader but it helped in understanding why the characters were the way they were. I loved how Reign and Remy's sibling bond and I can't wait to read more about the Auclair Siblings in the next books.

The entire book was fabulous but towards the end, I felt that there were a few plotlines that I wished would have been talked about more. There were some instances which felt something missing or maybe they would be explained better in the next book. Also, the ending was a bit confusing and a little rushed.

You should definitely give this a try if you like Friends to Rivals to Lovers and a sassy heroine with an obsessed boy with impactful storyline.

HEAD ABOUT WATER by Wafiyah Basha
I LOVED THIS NOVEL SO MUCH!!
PLOT: I was hooked from the very first encounter between the two main characters. I was drawn and have fallen in love instantly. The plot was very interesting and really had me wondering what on earth is going on here? I MUST KNOW!
CLIFFHANGERS: Oh the book was filled with them. I will give you a mini hint that had me at the biggest cliffhanger. Blood.
SPICE: Here is the thing. This novel was and is a slow burn. And I was in love with that! The characters took the time to fall in love. I loved how the FMC allowed herself at some point to get lost in the love of the MMC. The spicy scenes were not much, but it was the fact the built up was made that made me see the spice scene so worthy of the wait.
DETAILS: I loved and appreciated every detail written in this book! It really allowed me to live with the characters throughout their story. I loved how detailed it was how the characters were feeling emotions. How the FMC portrayed her love in the novel.
EMOTIONS: I cried. Once again, I have cried. But must I say, Kenai, is now my new book boyfriend. I AM THAT IN LOVE.

I loved how the novel started with this strong headed woman and then allowed herself to let a man be in her life. I appreciate the effort the author has place in this novel. I can really see it has been written from the heart. I really look forward to book 2 in the series!!

Steam level - 2.5
Next in the series -
The fire within us - Reagan × ??

My thoughts -

Reign was a freaking badass, I loved her so much and Kenai, my baby, I loved how he was willing to do anything for her.
This books was so Beautifully written, I felt every single emotion. And the side characters were so good. I loved the banter and there was same tension.

🤍 head above water 🤍

🤍 31/01/23 ~ 28/02/23 🤍

3.5⭐

I only made it to the 80% mark in this book as I made the mistake of not realising that this book was a heavy adult romance book and as a closed door reader I did not enjoy the 🌶️ scenes as they are just not my forte I prefer not to read about them.

Ignoring the 🌶️ scenes I absolutely did enjoy this book (although the Google books' read aloud function needs to make some better voice options because the voice was very monotonous). Kenai and Reign's relationship is so adorable in their nicknames and teasing and I loved how they both worked through their individual issues together. Kenai nicknaming Reign "rainbow" will always be a favourite of mine. Can I just say that I adore Remi and how he supports Reign and helps her through her anxiety attacks (as someone who has suffered with them it was so nice to see the representation in the book).

this book was so funny and cute, I adored it!!

Reign Auclair is the CEO of auclair enterprise. Kenai Williams is the CEO of leo industries. and they’re rivals. but it wasn’t always like that. Reign and Kenai were best friends throughout their childhood and adolescence, but something separated them apart and now Reign can’t stand him. the problem is.. they will have to work together on a project.

I just wanted to say that Wafiyah’s written is so good, funny and light! I already told her but I want to say it again here: just through her writing I could easily tell that the book was hers. she has a unique way of writing and a amazing sense of humor which she demonstrated, mainly, in Reign.

Reign is a total badass b*tch, a strong, independent and beautiful woman. Kenai is more like a cute and a inlove boy, and he loves Reign like a monkey loves bananas. although I prefer possessive MC in books, he was super cute with her and their relationship was adorable.

the book leaves us with many questions open that we want to know straight away and we can’t (thank you Wafiyah I’m going to cry because of that). the only thing I would have liked to have seen more in this book were the hot moments between them.

this is the 1st book on the new Wafiyah’s series: auclair triplets series.

My thoughts
Is it an understatement to fall more in love with you Wafiyah? Because I truly do. And this book has done nothing but brought immense love for both the characters and of course, YOU.

I finished HAW within a day and I can’t express how much I loved Reign and Kenai’s story.

The love they carried for each other and the attraction level, their bickering everything was all so perfect and had me hooked from the start.

I envied Reign for pulling herself through her past and becoming a strong independent woman. The love she had for her closed ones was truly remarkable. The cold facade she had for the outside world was nothing compared to that.

I’m eagerly waiting for your next release now and I’m going to dive right onto your next book Sweet Melodies right after this. I bet that book is as wonderful as HAW <33

rating 5/5 stars.

This is the second novel I've read from this author.
Can we just acknowledge the fact that the writing is so good. The improvement, the way Wafiyah's writing has matured. Its everything.
I loved thos book sm. It had my fav trope out there which is best friends to lovers.
(a slight mishap on the way but yes this is the trope)
And of course the "i wrote letters "
"WHAT LETTERS" trope.
Also this book is part of a trilogy so it left me on a cliffhanger. I WANT TO KNOW MORE. I need more of Kenai and Reign.
Reign is such a badass, I love her sm. Very midnight rain energy from her.
And Kenai my love, he is the best. Sunshine guy and the golden retriever energy >>>
I really wish I had a Kenai in my life now Wafiyah.
I can't wait to read book 2 of this series and can't wait to read more from the author <3

I lied when I said Aria (from Sweet Melodies) was my fav FMC. Reign took her place easily. She is tough, imperfect, the anger issues and impulsivity are also present and her goal is to to be master of her own life. With all the above, I found myself a lot in her character.

This is a reverse grumpy sunshine in all it’s beauty. Reign is the morally grey character that I’ve come to love so much from page one. I wish we had a little more insight from Kenai’s life but, considering this is gonna be series about the Auclair triplets, I see why the main focus was on Reign, and I’m not mad about it at all.

This is a huge step forward from Sweetness Melodies. You can already see Wafyiah’s improvement as a writer. Big, big, big congrats to you, love! I’m so happy I got to meet a famous-author-to-be since your first book and I can’t wait to find out what you have in store for us.

When I first came across this book's arc sign-up on the author's insta, the first thought that crossed my mind was "I hope it's a good book" cause I hate giving bad reviews, it just doesn't fit right with me and I always feel guilty because I know that the author put their blood, sweat, tears and time into the book, then as time passed and H.A.W's tropes and the blurb was released, I realized that this book is both gonna be amazing and it's going to emotionally destroy me, because to MC's with tragic pasts always brought me to tears, and I thought that H.A.W would be no different but I was wrong, Head Above Water is exceptional, the way Wafiyah dives into human emotions and thoughts and how even though we sometimes commit or say things that are or feel unforgivable that doesn't mean that we are monsters, it just means we are human and we make mistakes but we shouldn't let those mistakes define us, the book makes you see that and I know a romance book and I love Reign and Kenai's interactions and how much Kenai loves Reign and the way he never, ever gives up on her even when she pushes him away, it's breathtaking and I would definetly reccommend this book, no questions asked, and please have a box of tissues cause what's a good book if it doesn't emotionally destroy you and it's HEA, which is like the cherry on top

The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because I can't give it a 4.5, and the only reason I'm giving it a 4.5 is because I wish it was longer!! I neeeeed more of these babies, ughhhh beautiful 😫😫😫❤❤❤

Head Above Water blends the CEO romance and the reverse grumpy x sunshine tropes. Although I usually dislike the reverse grumpy x sunshine trope, I rather enjoyed it in this book.

I thought Reign was awesome and adored her. Unless and until you have a death desire, do not touch her or her loved one since she is strong and powerful. She is a stunning and powerful woman.

Kenai, Dear God, Kenai. He is very adorable and gorgeous. After everything, he never stopped trying to help Reign. He brought light to her gloomy life.

They exchanged a lot of references and sweet moments that I appreciated.
Plane one, bouquet one, hospitals one and more.

I liked Remy too and am looking forward to his and Regan story.

Favourite quote - Scars stay, but demons can be chased away.

I had the privilege to be one of the arc readers for Head above water and I’m really glad I signed up for this. Head above water was also my very first arc book so it’s something special.

I have to admit that it took me a while to get into the story but in the end I enjoyed reading it. It was such a sweet, emotional and intense love story. Reign Auclair is a badass woman, we have to admit that. I also loved the sweet and precious side of Kenai, loved whenever he shared his emotions, thoughts and feelings with Reign.

Wafiyah did a great job with this book. Excited for more upcoming books.

I have always love books where the characters act like power couple rather than making the girl a “naive little thing”

I loved the connection they had even when they were fighting, the banter was top notch and I praise a man who knows how to grovel!!!

Reign is a walking inferno and I am in awe of her for everything she did 🥺🤌🏼 To stand for what she believed in was f**king beautiful 🌹

Kenai is the Cinnamon Roll who would be vicious for everyone else except the people he loves 🖤🖤

I loved them and Remy so much and I can’t wait for his book!!

Quick Review

It was unexpectedly a very different story. It was full of sarcasm (which I totally loved & enjoyed), love moments 🔥, siblings banter and those were so funny I could actually relate to them. Not every time when the girl is a badass that the boy will be badass too, well he could be a sweet, and a ray of sunshine as well.
This one breaks all the stereotypes that are there in the world regarding boys and girls. It's fantastic 😍😍.
Worth of time and emotions I felt for it.

i was really lucky to receive this arc and wow what a book!! in this book we follow reign and kenai that are childhood best friends that become enemies (and business rivals). and let me tell you something when taylor swift wrote the line "he was sunshine, i was midnight rain" she was thinking about this two.
this book was super good, super fast to read, there was not a single moment in it where the story got boring and i cant wait to read the next book in this series
