‘Chove, Chuva’ tem uma letra relativamente simples e a alma do que viria a ficar conhecido como “samba-rock”, com arranjos tipicamente sambistas, mas levada animada típica do rock. A bela música ganhou versões da brasileira Elza Soares, da sul-africana Miriam Makeba, do Biquini Cavadão e do Mundo Livre S/A, que ainda batizou seu álbum Samba Esquema Noise como uma forma de homenagear Jorge Ben.

Chove Chuva is featured on the 1963 record Samba Esquema Novo. This album along with the next 15, were all written under the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964- 1985). As Jorge Ben’s first album, it was a testing ground for what he could get away with as an artist under the censorship fo the military. He uses vague and ambiguous references throughout Chove Chuva, as a means of artistic expression. The rain is a well accepted symbol of sadness and pain throughout music. Fellow artist Sergio Mendez covered this song in 2002, dubbing it “Constant Rain” (in english). The lyrics of Sergio’s rendition express some of the possible emotive intentions that Jorge Ben could not express at the time. In order to appreciate either rendition it is important to be familiar with both.
