      Critics Consensus

Monk wisely closes the curtain just as the formula begins to grow tiresome, delivering a predictable conclusion that will still hearten fans of San Francisco's finest germaphobe.

Mike Hale New York Times Everything neatly wrapped up - just like Monk folding his laundry. Sep 10, 2018 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club I won't miss Monk all that terribly, but I will miss knowing that the show was out there, creating a safe haven for people who just wanted a few smiles on a Friday night. Rated: B- Sep 10, 2018 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times Here's to you Mr. Monk, a small and steady light on an often blinding, hyperkinetic screen. In your own quiet way, you have changed our lives and you will be missed. Sep 10, 2018 Full Review Jennifer Smith Collider There are many fabulous stand-alone episodes in season eight. Sep 10, 2018 Full Review Ross Ruediger Bullz-Eye.com It's the TV equivalent of comfort food, and there aren't many shows you can say that about anymore. Now there's one less. david f This is where "professional" critics don't have it right. If you read enough of a single critic's opinions you can see a tiresome pattern of taste with no more than one lense offered. Nostalgic shows rarely need a different formula to be successful. After 6 years of any series viewers could care less about specific plots and fresh situations. Character evolution, closure, and old friends are the reasons we continue to watch. Monk should have ended at 10 years, not 8. And only a few would know why. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review StephenPaul C The worst f**ked up 16 episodes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/23 Full Review Monahan T Mixed emotions here; hate to see the show end, but happy that it is ending on a high note-- eight seasons of quality writing & acting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review aaron p Season 8 was bad, the ending snd the reason for truly death was very poor. Truly should have died because she was a drug kingpin. She crossed up a gang member that wanted to take over her gang. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Klice Enjoyed. Though it took Monk too long to solve Trudy's case, compared to those cases he solved in one day. Trudy's case is not even that difficult. Understandably, the plot needs to keep this secrete, but it did make it look like that monk is not trying at all. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/22 Full Review Audience Member Awesome show! Detective Cusauk meets Mr.Bean meet Michael Scott (the Office)…. Clean, funny, interesting detective show. Monk is one of those characters that you hate but can't stop watching him be awkward. You will grow to love the guy as you laugh and wince at him. The supporting actors are excellent, they add a nice balance to him, yet they also have their moments of hilarity. A must watch for a nice, clean and entertaining show! I also hate shows with terrible abrupt endings, and this one did not dissapoint. Watch till the last episode!
