The number of OG CSI cast members returning for CBS’ forthcoming revival has ticked up to four.
Paul Guilfoyle, who played homicide detective captain Jim Brass on the original series, will reprise his role in the sequel series CSI: Vegas, TVLine has confirmed. He joins fellow franchise vets William Petersen (Gil) Jorja Fox (Sara) and Wallace Langham (Hodges). Whereas Petersen, Fox and Langham will be series regulars in the new iteration, Guilfoyle is set to guest star in just two episodes, Deadline reports.
Guilfoyle appeared in the first 14 seasons of CSI, exiting ahead of the 15th and final season.
The new crop of CSIs, meanwhile, will be played by Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights, Kingdom), Paula Newsome (Chicago Med, Barry), Mel Rodriguez (Last Man on Earth) and Mandeep Dhillon (After Life). Additionally, Jamie McShane (SEAL Team) will recur.
The official logline for CSI: Vegas, which will debut this fall on CBS, is as follows: “Facing an existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a brilliant new team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City.”
The new CSI — which is being viewed as a potential ongoing series vs. a limited one — was initially slated to premiere last fall, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the original CSI‘s 2000 launch. The coronavirus pandemic, however, delayed those plans.
Hoping for Marg Helgenberger to return!
Have had a crush on her forever
I love how “The new crop of CSIs” looks like a UN convention. lol They just need to make sure one of them is gay on the show and I think they covered everything. Think they’re trying a little too hard?
History has showed that a more diverse group of actors tends to generate higher viewership. It’s a smart move and reflects life.
I think he never watched Lost then
Rather see the original group. They meshed well!
There’s gay people in every day life, it’s normal. Do you have a problem with that?
Out of a group of six, how many should be gay on average? How many are on TV?
And as long as the actors are good and the plot lines work who really cares?
^ tell me you are a white American, without telling me you are a white American.
As it should ;)
I’ll be watching whenever it shows up! It just better be on broadcast TV, and not another Paramount+ misfire.
I just wish there was a way for Morgan to return as well.
Yes!
Looking forward to this new (old) series with new and fresh faces added to it.
Hooray 💕💕💕😚😍😍😍!!!! But where’s Grissom !!!!?????
William Petersen is mentioned multiple times in the article as returning.
I’d like to see Greg again too.
Can’t wait.
Would love to see Catherine’s daughter Lyndsay, therefore Catherine could do some guest spots. Greg and Morgan would be great to see as well.
Two epic friendships from those first 7 or so seasons – Catherine & Sara, as well as Grissom & Brass. And of course Nick & Warrick, but the canon death killed that. Although if we’re having nostalgia vibes – how much fun would a Warrick memories episode be? Flashbacks (or them doing a how this case would happen if he was still alive) could supply some new scenes of these two bantering.
And I’d love to see some new and modern “I’m here for you hug/scenes” with the other 2 friendships I mentioned before. Still sad we didn’t see more of Gil/Jim friendship during the ‘losing hearing’ plot. (Even with Cath’s support being so sweet). And who can forget that when Cath got raped she immediately trusted and turned to Sara for support & help? Showed how strong their friendship was. I stopped watching around Season 9 because American shows have a bad ‘cash cow’ view & tend to run for far too long. But I’d watch this! And we still have a chance for Greg and Nick scenes (as far as I know).
And finally – I have loved Conrad Ecklie from Season 1 and love that he’s become a friend and ally. Please let’s have plenty of scenes with him – how much fun would it be to see both sweet/supportive and friend/rival banter scenes between him and the trio – Gil, Jim and Cath. One-on-one or group scenes.
Love how the only returning actors are the ones who left not the ones that stayed and were still working in the lab at the end of the series.
The show was never the same after Grisom left he made that show.
CSI Las Vegas: What about the tall, dark, handsome investigator with the beautiful blue eyes?
He died if you referring to Warrick brown..
Gary has green eyes.
Green eyes and he was murdered. I never watched another episode after his death. They killed him off after a scandal in his personal life and I think they really screwed up killing him off. I won’t be watching the reboot without them finding a way to bring him back.
I still watch csi no matter who dies or leaves it will always be my favorite show to watch even with the new ones coming in.
Yes, Warrick. Loved him. good time to bring him back with Greg and Nick. Then I would watch again. Sara Sidle is just too annoying to watch.
I’m so glad there bring back csi-Vegas one of my favorite now brack csi-Miami that would be perfect think of anew storyline writers
Looking forward to seeing old friends again.
In the pilot for CSI, Brass seemed disgruntled at being replaced by Grissom as CSI lead, like shifting to homicide detective was almost a demotion or at least an undeserved lateral move… and he was ragging the ‘science geeks’ at every opportunity. He wasn’t nice.
Also he despised Warrick as a lowlife gambling addict, and everyone had not so secret beef with everyone else
But by ep2, Brass was buddy buddy with Grissom and the core CSI crew were all friendly like. They softened or eliminated almost all the dramatic tensions between the whole crew that were established in the pilot.
Every other high level law enforcement folk the CSI crew came into contact with, from sheriffs to captains to politicians, became the foils, holding the same grudges that Brass seemed to carry in the pilot.
It was weird. It would have been better to bring the bad blood back out of Brass at some point, and tie him to the corruption of the CSI unit… but they never did.
Hmm.. considering the premise of the reboot is that a huge event happens to bring back Gil and Sara, I’d guess the fate of Brass is not looking good. Seems like his death among others will center on the start the revival.
PLEASE PLEASE BRING GEORGE EAFS BACK. MCGUYVER SHOULD NEVER HAD FIRED HIM. IT MIGHT STILL BE ON. THEY HAD A GOOD CHEMISTRY
George Eads left McGyver by his own choice, to spend more time with his kids and family. That new MacGyver ruined Jack Dalton any way.
He’s divorced & has one daughter…and he was on “This is Us” this season.
So…. He quit MacGyver to spend time with his KID/family then…
“From 2016 to 2019, Eads starred as Jack Dalton in CBS’s reboot series MacGyver. In 2018, while the series’ third season was filming, Eads asked to be released from his contract so he could spend more time with his young daughter who resides in Los Angeles, as MacGyver is filmed in Atlanta. Producers ultimately agreed with Eads being written out of the show but left open the opportunity for him to return as a guest star in the future. The February 1, 2019 episode “Father + Bride + Betrayal” was his last on MacGyver.”— Wikipedia (not edited by me)
He was on one ep of THIS IS US… This Is Us films in…. wait for iiiiiiiit… Los Angeles!!
They should do an episode where DNA is collected at the crime scene and it takes a month for the lab analysis to come back.
Yipee
how can he reprise his role ? his too old !
Thank God………
Bring the character of Nick back and Marg Helgenberger character katherine
Yes. I want to see Marg Helenberger/Catherine again.
If the characters Morgan and Greg were included from the original I would be far more excited than I am about this currently
Truth be told! We want Sanders and Brody!
Love that show csi love it
Best news I’ve heard in a long time It was my first CSI love
