After years of turmoil and tragedy, including the death of daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in 2015, Bobby Brown married his longtime friend and manager Alicia Etheredge-Brown.

Brown wed Etheredge-Brown in 2012 in Hawaii. Before their marriage, they had a son together, Cassius. After tying the knot, the couple welcomed two daughters, Bodhi and Hendrix.

"He was in a pretty sad place," Etheredge-Brown told PEOPLE in 2022 about Brown in the years following his divorce from singer Whitney Houston. "I saw him dealing with heartbreak," she said. "I saw him fighting to get back to his music and what he loves."

As for their relationship, Etheredge-Brown said, "I am the yin to his yang."

So, who is Bobby Brown's No. 1 fan? Here's everything to know about Alicia Etheredge-Brown and her relationship with the "My Prerogative" singer.

Before Brown's tumultuous 14-year marriage to Houston, he was just a rising teen star "kicking it" with friends — like Etheredge-Brown.

"We met many years ago, many years ago," Brown told Access Hollywood in 2012. "I believe I was about 18, and we were at a dance place, where people just go and work out their new moves … I met her there, and we became friends, we all hung out."

He continued, "Then I ended up getting married, and after me getting divorced, for some strange reason, I saw her again, and sparks flew."

She helped convince Brown to marry Whitney Houston

As a longtime friend of Brown, Etheredge-Brown was at Brown's wedding to Houston – and she actually convinced her future husband to walk down the aisle with Houston.

On the day of the wedding, Brown experienced cold feet. "All of his groomsmen and his brother could not get him out the bathroom, so I was like, 'Listen! We're getting this show on the road. We're here, and this is happening,'" Etheredge Brown explained on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022.

She later added, "For some reason, he listens to me, and he eventually came out the bathroom and went down that aisle."

She is Brown's manager

Etheredge-Brown is more than just Brown's wife – she also helps to keep his career on track.

Etheredge-Brown has served as Brown's manager since signing on to his team in 2008. "She's worked with Macy Gray and Magic Johnson and people like that," Brown told Complex in 2012. "She's just a brilliant lady."

Mixing business and pleasure doesn't always go as planned, as Etheredge-Brown admitted in 2016 to 20/20.

"Yes, there is always conflict at times that arises … and I think it's just when the two overlap," she said.

Brown proposed to her on stage

After managing the New Edition member for several years and giving birth to their son Cassius in 2009, Brown proposed to Etheredge-Brown at the Funk Fest concert in Jacksonville, Florida, in May 2010. Of course, she said yes.

"We shouted, we screamed," Carol Pearsall, a fan who attended the concert, told the Florida Times-Union. "We supported him."

Added Pearsall's husband, Paul, "Hopefully, he'll get it right this time."

She helped Brown get his "passion back"

Brown credits a big part of his life transformation to Etheredge-Brown, whom he told PEOPLE in 2011 helped him get back "his passion back for music, for loving myself."

"I'm a better person, so I can be a better partner and father," he said, adding, "She makes me want to live."

In her 2016 20/20 interview, Etheredge-Brown said of Brown, "He has good days and bad days, and he struggles like everybody else."

The solution? Her understanding and prayer: "He has really strong faith," she said.

She has suffered health issues

In 2012, Etheredge-Brown was hospitalized after suffering a seizure in the couple's hotel room in Kissimmee, Florida, while Brown was doing a soundcheck for a New Edition show.

"The report that my wife was rushed to the hospital is true," Brown shared on Twitter in September 2012. "She is recovering and is in good spirits and doing well. Please keep my family in your prayers."

Her sister co-founded a hair care line

Etheredge-Brown has a sister, Kim Etheredge, the co-founder of the hair product line Mixed Chicks. The pair are often together, and Kim has been a frequent subject on Etheredge-Brown's social media pages.

Alicia and Kim also have a younger brother Justin, who graduated from college in June 2016. Etheredge-Brown posted a family photo of her and Brown hugging her brother on Instagram.

She has three children with Brown

Etheredge-Brown and Brown have three children together. They welcomed son Cassius in 2009, daughter Bodhi in 2015 and daughter Hendrix in 2016.

When Hendrix was born, Brown announced her birth on Instagram. "Just had a baby girl 10 pounds," he captioned a photo of himself.

She leads Brown in yoga and meditation

When Brown is feeling down, Etheredge-Brown told PEOPLE she relies on meditation, yoga and self-help books to lift his spirits.

"When you're living with somebody who has fought so many addictions and has come so far, and then you see there's still something holding them back, and there's still something weighing them down … you just want to help them and support them," she told 20/20. "I'm learning, obviously, with this process how to be supportive."
