I stayed for two nights and my overall stay was average. My room was very nice and clean and the hotel overall was nice. However, I have a few things that are worth mentioning here. As a Lifetime Titanium Member, I have high expectations when I stay at a Renaissance. The first and very shocking thing is that I had no hot water. When I called downstairs they said that we do have hot water and that we just have to let it run for about 15-20 minutes before it will get warm. I did that and then I had a hot shower. This does seem a little ridiculous to me though. Both from a conservation standpoint as well as time. ( I arrived around 1am and was exhausted and ready for a quick shower and bed.) Further, this hotel staff needs some training and my even bigger complaint is about the restaurant. The front desk informed me that breakfast would be served in the restaurant until 11 AM. I received 1 breakfast voucher for two and was told that I could get another one the next day if I wanted to eat in the restaurant again. Breakfast the first day was mostly without incident, however it took a few people and way too long for me to receive the check. ( I had a voucher and my balance was zero. ) The next day, my sister and I arrived at the restaurant at about 10:40am and the floor was completely wet and had already been mopped up. Granted, there was no one in the restaurant, but I still didn’t expect this at this hour. There was nobody seated and we wanted to eat breakfast. There was no one to greet us at the door but then somebody spotted us, and then seated us. I told my sister about the incredible stuffed French toast that I had for breakfast the previous day and thus we ordered that and then afterwards we were told that we couldn’t get breakfast. So there is definitely some mis-communication here between the front desk and restaurant. In addition, the woman who seated us was extremely nasty and when we had expressed that the floor was being mopped at that moment she was rude to us and decided that she wouldn’t seat us and instead handed us off to someone else. This was completely inappropriate, unexpected and certainly doesn’t meet the Marriott standard. Afterwards, I went down to the front desk and talked to the front desk manager, Tiffany. She acknowledged that some training is needed at the front desk (and I definitely think it is needed in the restaurant!) and then I was accommodated me accordingly. The only other comment I’ll make is about the parking. It is very confusing and the parking is shared with the connecting venue. I was lost and I also don’t know if I’d want to walk downstairs in that long hallway alone late at night. Having said all of this, I would stay here again if I ever find myself in Allentown.

They have a limited number of connecting rooms (King/Twin). The rooms are newly remodeled, but I personally found the set up not to my taste. Finding the hotel parking will be daunting. I recalled that the entrance to the parking (to the hockey stadium) was the hotel parking as well. The parking garage entrance is on Linden, I recalled. However, one should call the hotel ahead of time to confirm. My recollection was that I had to pull a ticket to enter and parked on the second floor. There is an elevator to go to the hotel from the parking garage. Follow the directions. It will be a maze within the center, but if one looks around, one will find the elevator that will take one from the 1st floor to the basement to reach the hotel. I believe that the elevator was somewhat hidden as one would walk pass it if one is focusing on following the signage to the hotel. The severe lack of signage for the elevator could be very frustrating for would be guests. It took me quite a bit to find the hotel parking as well as the elevator that take one from the 1st floor to the basement to walk to the hotel entrance. There is really no need to take any luggage up or down the stairs as all public places should be ADA compliance. The lack of signage for the hotel parking entrance and the elevator that take one from the 1st floor to the basement walkway were probably the source of much of the frustration of the guests. I mean, who wants an angry guest even before one even reached the front desk? Perhaps these issues have been fixed by the time of this review. The breakfast at the restaurant was decent, but slow. There were only three to four tables, including ours, at the time, but breakfast took about half an hour before the food arrived at our table. The wait staff was pleasant, but again, it took awhile for the staff to take our orders even though there weren’t that many people there. The areas around the hotel appeared to be on the rough side, especially when one is driving around at 10 p.m. trying to find the hotel and the hotel parking.

I love this hotel! I was her pre-COVID before it shut down. It is new and clean and modern. The gym is nice and the snacks in the club lounge were good. They have great mini muffins in the club lounge. I am Titanium elite and didn’t receive an upgrade but enjoyed the lounge.

The only thing that keeps me from staying here in the future is the lack of valet parking or security guard in the garage. Allentown is very sketchy and I usually don’t come back until late at night. I wouldn’t mind the parking garage if there was a security guard walking around or valet but walking in the garage or tunnel at night by myself makes me uncomfortable even if there are security cameras. I really hope they get valet soon because I would definitely make this my hotel of choice.

I am giving this an 3 star in COVID kindness. This hotel needs staff and management. We checked in self park is at hockey parking separate elevators and stairs. There is no valet or porter. Rooms require a key to run lights and AC our room was 84f it took hours to cool the room down and it was a hot night of sleep. The restaurant has one lady and a cook. There is no point of sale system. The poor woman takes the disposable menu and writes up the charge.

There is no housekeeping and no way to get extra towels except thru the one lady at the front desk. The front desk people repeatedly told us the hotel was sold out but we learned they have no one to clean the rooms so they stay dirty and you cannot get a room. So not sold out just no help. I would rather have someone be straight up about help issues then have manager require their staff to lie.

We never saw a manager the hotel is literally running with one person at the desk .

I was visiting Lehigh University and needed a hotel nearby. The Renaissance Allentown was listed as being about 5 miles away on the Bonvoy app, and turned out to be about a 20 minute drive away. Google maps took me to a street in downtown Allentown that had no obvious hotel entrance. There was a sign in the street that said hotel loading and unloading only, so I stopped and got out of the car to investigate. This was in fact the hotel's main entrance, so I'm glad it wasn't raining since there was no way to enter under cover.

The hotel is nicely designed and appointed; the staff is accommodating. The room was clean with comfortable bedding. My biggest complaint is that the hotel parking is in the same garage and the hockey stadium next door. Getting from the garage to the hotel is so complicated that the hotel must station a staff person in the garage lobby to give directions. Even then it's not simple and there is no way to roll luggage since there are stairs that cannot be avoided.

Fortunately, my second night there was a Saturday and street parking was free after 9pm and all day on Sunday. So I parked close to the hotel entrance on the street that night and did not have to deal with the garage in the morning.

Another negative about the garage is that only one elevator serves its 9 floors and before I arrived on Friday someone had vomited in it. Although it had been wiped clean, that elevator stank the next day. This provided extra motivation to park on the street beyond saving the $16/day parking charge.

Another negative was the $22 breakfast buffet that is free to some Bonvoy elite members. The place was basically empty but I was directed to very specific tables far away from be buffet. Sadly, there were three servers who literally had nothing to do other that encourage me to order "upgrades" from the menu like custom cooked eggs or pancakes. The coffee they brought was cold, bitter, and stale. The second morning I brought my own water bottle and asked for no beverages and still a glass of ice water was delivered. I understand that servers rely on tips, but I was uncomfortable thinking that I was personally responsible for feeding them and their paying rent since the place was so empty. Other issues with the buffet: the breads and fruit were covered in plastic that I had to remove to get at it. The fruit was mostly ok, but there were some spoilt pieces among the blueberries and strawberries. The breads were also not fresh, and felt like they were a few days old. I was only there on Saturday and Sunday morning, so I'm not sure if the weekday buffet is better. I suspect that it is.

The elite lounge was opened but was not refreshed while I was there. It had bags of chips, oranges, apples, and pears - the pears were so soft that a couple of them melted to the touch. There was also a tray full of what looked like home baked macadamia cookies.

My room had a nice view of the trendy downtown shopping area across the street. There was live music at night and it felt quaint.

Dear valued guest, We recognize your time is valuable and appreciate the feedback you have provided. My apologies on the garage. It’s the building design as we share a two block radius with the ppl arena and a hospital network. The restaurant issues will be brought up with manager of f&b. The lounge is open Monday through Friday morning with full service then just limited items on weekends. I will contact Marriott in reference to the Bonvoy app having incorrect information Thanks again!

So many problems with my recent stay. First, I booked a one bedroom suite where the pictures online showed two rooms separated by an almost complete wall. I got one large room with a bed and sofa but absolutely no separation. I complained that this wasn't what was advertised (and what I was willing to pay over $400 per night for) and they said all their rooms were booked and they couldn't do anything. After further complaints, I got a small discount but this is really deceptive. I was also "guaranteed" in my booking a room on a high floor (above 9th) but was placed on a lower floor.

Second, we went for breakfast around 7:53am when breakfast is supposed to start at 7am. They weren't opened. I called down and was told one employee just arrived late (and this caused the opening of breakfast to be delayed by a crazy amount).

Third, one elevator was broken so the waits for the single operating elevator was super long.

Fourth, our room wasn't cleaned properly with someone else's food and trash in the mini fridge.

Fifth, we went to the club room one afternoon and the morning after (maybe 17 hours between our two visits), and there had been no service at all (all the dirty plates were still on the tray where people were leaving them, the drinks and snacks that were depleted were not restored).

Last, the bathroom was pretty run down.

Please save yourself the money and time and DO NOT book this hotel. I don’t even know where to start. This should not be an establishment of sleep. We had a room facing the street and there’s a club/ outdoor restaurant across the street that played loud music we’ll pass 3am. The windows are paper thin so you hear absolutely everything. There are speeding cars zooming by all hours the morning playing extremely loud music. There was no valet parking, so you not only have to pay $16 to park per day, but you have to walk two blocks to retrieve your car. The entire hotel smells of cigarettes covered up by cheap air refresher. So please don’t stay here.

Dear valued guest, We recognize your time is valuable and appreciate the feedback you have provided. The noise issue experienced will be discussed with management of the restaurant. We are working diligently on brining back Valet Service as the hotel did have it prior to the hotel closing for over a year due to the Covid Pandemic. Upon reopening we have spoke with several companies and all are experiencing staffing shortages in the market and we want to reopen valet the correctly with the proper amount of staffing. As in any city there is parking charges as we share our garage with two other building tenants. The hotel smell is the signature Renaissance Hotel brand scent. Thank you again.

I have stayed in many Marriott hotels worldwide but never have I experienced any of them having anywhere close to the ineptness and incompetence of this hotel. They canceled reservations in us, booked us into rooms already occupied, rooms had no soap or no bedsheets, They apologized profusely but the errors were not corrected unless you reminded them several times. My daughter had to put the bed sheets on herself in order to sleep. Yes, there is a pandemic and worker shortage but that does not suggest you can make false promises and not follow through on what you tell your guests. To me, the Marriott brand denotes quality and class. Unfortunately neither of these exist at this hotel. Do yourself a huge favor and book somewhere else until they get better management and clean up their act. Major disappointment. I even gave them my Rewards information and my stay has yet to show on my account. Another oversight by them? I am leaning towards a yes based on their performance.

Stayed their because of a family visit and access to everything. It’s rating and being a Marriott member pushed me to this hotel, I paid with points from my CSR and it was a waste. Upon arriving I made my way to the front desk which involved two elevator rides after parking in the parking deck behind the hotel. After check in I made my way to the room which I booked an executive king. Upon entering the room I noticed it had two double beds. I called the front desk and they had me go down 3 floors and wait in the hall while they brought up a new key for my room. I got ready and met some family across the street for dinner and drinks. I arrive back at the room around 10 pm. You can hear everyone that walks by your room. I fell asleep around 11pm and was abruptly awaken by someone banging on a door in the hallway at 245 am. Apparently someone had locked themselves out of their room and was trying to wake up their roommate. They even had the audacity to knock on other rooms and ask to call their roommate which makes me believe they weren’t supposed to be there. I had to call the front desk in which they must have went up 5-10 min later or they finally made it into the room. After being awaken I could not fall back asleep. Check out was a breeze, I made the long journey back to my car, and here is what caused me to leave the review. If you park in the parking garage you are supposed to be able to contact the front desk to have them buzz you out so you don’t have to pay. However when you hit the call button you get the “your call cannot be completed as dialed” prompt. $16 for one night of parking. The staff of the hotel was amazing, I do not want to take away from them, the overall experience will most likely keep me away from the property in the future.

The Renaissance has an attractive design and decor. It has tremendous potential to be an upscale hotel.

Unfortunately, downtown Allentown can be very unsafe. It felt like the TV show Walking Dead at night. There were so many homeless people and drug addicts loitering around the hotel and on the sidewalks in every direction. Daytime seemed safe to walk around but not at night or early in the morning. Especially if there isn't a sports game or concert taking place in the attached arena. Staff told guests to not walk more than 2 blocks in any direction.

Services were limited. It's more like a Fairfield, Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn, No bellman or doorman, no concierge to assist with anything, no dry cleaning or laundry, no newspapers, no room service, etc.

While there is a club lounge for Bonvoy elite status guests that is open 24/7, the breakfast and evening food services are limited and quite basic. By 7:30 pm, the food was gone with no dessert. Supposedly there were cocktails and wine but I never saw any. In the morning, the coffee was from a machine.

All things considered, I can't recommend staying here. For the rates it's a very poor value. This just isn't a real Renaissance. And downtown Allentown just doesn't feel safe.

Tilghman Street runs about 7 blocks over from the Renaissance Hotel. Depending on where you are starting or heading to it could be really close, or a couple of miles.

From the hotel: The first option is valet parking which is located on the right side of 7th street in between Linden Street and Hamilton Street, right before the monument. The cost for this is $12.00/night and includes in and out access as often as you need. The second option is self parking which is located on Linden Street in between 7th and 8th Streets. This cost is $10/night and also includes in and out access as often as you need by stopping at the reception desk to get a chaser ticket. If you are doing the self-park, you'll see the garage entrance when you are on Linden Street. It was much easier to find than I expected. (I, too, was worried based on other TA comments.)
