2024 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES DRIVE
THE 2024 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES DRIVE. Your sacrificial gifts of prayer and treasure will make an immediate impact on ministries that focus on evangelization, serving those in need, and the formation of our priests and deacons. During Lent, and throughout the year, we are challenged to renew our spiritual devotions and duties, and one of those holy duties is to support the Church. This year, our campaign’s theme is Encountering Christ. During this time of Eucharistic Revival, Encountering Christ is an invitation to grow in your living relationship with Christ in the Eucharist, to open your heart to serving your brothers and sisters, and to fulfill your holy duty of supporting the Church with gifts of your time, talent, and treasure.
Please mail your contributions to the Diocese of Altoona/Johnstown, or make an online gift by clicking the button below. 100% of your gift goes directly to these ministries. All gifts received beyond the parish target amount will be used for your parish. The target amounts for 2024 are: Resurrection Parish, $31,643.00; and St. Clare of Assisi Parish, $8,472.00.

A PRAYER FOR PEACE IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE
God of Comfort,
send your Spirit to encompass all those whose lives
are torn apart by violence and death in Israel and Palestine.
You are the Advocate of the oppressed
and the One whose eye is on the sparrow.
Let arms reach out in healing, rather than aggression.
Let hearts mourn rather than militarize.
God of Justice,
give strength to those whose long work for a just peace
might seem fruitless now. Strengthen their resolve.
Do not let them feel alone. Show us how to support their work
and bolster their courage. Guide religious leaders to model
unity and reconciliation across lines of division.
Guide political leaders to listen with their hearts as they seek peace and pursue it.
Help all people choose the rigorous path of just peace and disavow violence.
God of Love,
we lift up Palestine and Israel — its people, its land, its creatures.
War is a monster that consumes everything in its path.
Peace is a gift shared at meals of memory with Christians, Muslims, and Jews.
Let us burn incense, not children. Let us break bread, not bodies.
Let us plant olive groves, not cemeteries.
We beg for love and compassion to prevail
on all your holy mountains.
God of Hope,
we lift up the cities of the region: Gaza City and Tel Aviv,
Ramallah and Ashkelon, Deir El Balah and Sderot,
so long divided, yet so filled with life and creativity.
Come again to breathe peace on your peoples
that all may recognize you.
God of Mercy,
even now work on the hearts of combatants
to choose life over death, reconciliation over retaliation,
restoration over destruction. Help us resist antisemitism in all its forms,
especially in our own churches. All people, Israelis and Palestinians,
deserve to live in peace and unafraid, with a right to determine
their future together.
God of the Nations,
let not one more child or elder be sacrificed on altars of political expediency.
Keep safe all people from unjust leaders who would exploit
vulnerability for their own distorted ends.
Give wise discernment to those making decisions to pursue peace.
Provide them insight into fostering well-being, freedom, and thriving for all.
Teach all of us to resolve injustices with righteousness, not rockets.
Guard our hearts against retaliation, and give us hearts for love alone.
Strengthen our faith in you, O God of All Flesh,
even when we don’t have clear answers,
so that we may still offer ourselves nonviolently
for the cause of peace.
Amen.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION will be held on First Friday, June 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Resurrection Church. All are welcome.
EXPOSITION AND BENEDICTION is held the second Monday of each month after the 6:30 PM Mass at St. Clare of Assisi Church. The next adoration will take place on Monday, June 10.
ANDREW ADORATION CHAPEL, 1621 Ferndale Ave, Johnstown: If you are in need of healing, time to pray for others, or some peace and quiet with our Lord who is longing for you to visit, then the Adoration Chapel is the place for you! We are constantly looking to add adorers to our lineup as well as substitutes to fill in when a committed adorer cannot make a scheduled shift. Each week has 168 hours. The chapel is open Sunday afternoon-Saturday morning each week. Consider giving one hour to our Lord in spending time with Him. One does not need to be a member of St Andrew Parish in order to visit or commit in any way. Currently, we are most in need of the early morning hours on Wednesday, and 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Thursday mornings. If you are wondering how to find substitutes when needed, please know that we have an amazing group of over 30 people who generously fill in all hours of the night and day. If you have any concerns, questions, or want to sign up for an hour, please call 814-288-4324 Ext 6, or visit https://standrewjohnstown.org/adoration/or feel free call or text Terri Roy @ 815-255-5645. Jesus is waiting for you!
ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI: Connect with your Creator, Redeemer, and Spiritual Guide in a stress-free environment at the Eucharistic Adoration every First Friday of the month from 9:30AM until 5:30PM at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ - Sunday, June 2
Let us pray for the willingness to make present in our world
the love of Christ shown to us in the Eucharist.
We worship you living among us
in the sacrament of your Body and Blood.
May we offer to our Father in heaven
a solemn pledge of undivided love.
May we offer to our brothers and sisters,
a life poured out in loving service of that kingdom
where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen

On Sunday, we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus’ Body and Blood were sacrificed for us on Calvary, but before that excruciating event, He humbly bound Himself to human hands in the Eucharist. As St. Thomas Aquinas expresses, “In this sacrament, sins are purged away, virtues are increased, and the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacrament is so beneficial.”
Jesus gave us the perfect and loving gift of Himself so that we might be nourished, strengthened, and more fully united to Him as we journey to eternal life. This glorious solemnity calls us to reflect on the precious gift of the Eucharist and what it truly means for us as Catholics.
As we celebrate this glorious solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, let us find time to reflect on the Eucharist. Let us strive to intentionally honor and reverence Him at every Mass, strive to fully partake in each Eucharistic meal, and let us find time to visit our Savior in the Tabernacle. And let us pray frequently, “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief!”

Pray the Liturgy of the Hours
Lectio divina is a form of meditation rooted in liturgical celebration that dates back to early monastic communities. It was a method practiced by monks in their daily encounter with Scripture, both as they prepared for the Eucharist and as they prayed the Liturgy of the Hours.
The Latin phrase “lectio divina” may be translated as “divine reading.” As one reads and invites the Word to become a transforming lens that brings the events of daily living into focus, one can come to live more deeply and find the presence of God more readily in the events of each day. The method of lectio divina follows four steps:
Use these Lectio Divina guides to meditate, contemplate, and pray. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a prayer that was revealed by Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalska. It is recited using ordinary Rosary beads of five decades and is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska and followed by a closing prayer. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed on ordinary Rosary beads. See the link below for specific instructions for praying chaplet or the novena.
Use the link below to go to the Divine Mercy page. Each day, the prayers will only take about 10 minutes of your time. The Cause for Canonization
