Official: FalleN joins FURIA
The Godfather of Brazilian Counter-Strike will lead FURIA into the next season.
FURIA have announced the signing of veteran in-game leader Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo ahead of the fall season. The organization had been linked with the 32-year-old for more than a month and has now secured the AWPer's signature before their IEM Cologne 2023 campaign.
FalleN officially parted ways with Imperial on Sunday after a 17-month-stint with the organization. The Brazilian initially joined the team in February 2022 as part of the "Last Dance" project alongside Lincoln "fnx" Lau and Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, leading them to qualify for both the PGL Antwerp and IEM Rio Majors in 2022.
The two-time Major winner arrives in his new squad after averaging a 1.09 rating during his stint with Imperial and will take over the AWPing duties from FURIA's previous sniper, Rafael "saffee" Costa. Both the 28-year-old and academy product André "drop" Abreu left FURIA in late July ahead of a transfer to MIBR.
"FalleN is recognized as one of the greatest CS players of all time and has a successful career spanning over a decade," read the statement released by FURIA. "His journey is marked by numerous achievements and important titles, including two Major victories in 2016, the game's premier global competition, and his well-known role in leadership and the development of high-performance players and teams."
"FalleN's arrival represents a moment of unity for Brazilian esports." added FURIA's Co-Founder and Co-CEO, André Akkari. "This union brings together the best that Brazil has produced from two different generations. Two sides that were once opposed, separated by a rivalry that has been created for years, are now together in a movement that unites generations and the Brazilian CS community."
Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes is also expected to join FURIA and take over the last available spot on the roster following his departure from Imperial earlier on Monday. The Brazilian was first reported to be in the conversation for a move alongside FalleN by GamerArena on Sunday.
FURIA are scheduled to debut with their new roster at IEM Cologne 2023, where they'll tackle the Play-In stage between July 26-28. The Brazilian squad will battle it out against the likes of Liquid, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and fnatic for one of the eight spots in the competition's group stage.
FURIA's active roster is now:
Andrei "arT" Piovezan
Yuri "yuurih" Santos
Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo
Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira (coach)
