This 8-CD collection has blown me away! Bobbie Gentry - how to describe - she sure was something, still is no doubt! How about a mixture of Dusty Springfield, or a female Elvis, or Tony Joe White's swamp rock sister ...she did it all back in the late 1960s & early to mid 1970s (The Queen of Las Vegas up to around, 1980). Highlights: The book is simply gorgeous and the remastering of this extensive collection renders everything crystal clear especially Bobbie's voice. The album TOUCH 'EM WITH LOVE is quite a revelation --with soulfull vocals and tight intrumentation on the low-down funky title cut. I'll stick my neck out and say it's every bit as enjoyable as Dusty's classic DUSTY IN MEMPHIS - - and there's a Jimmy Webb song to boot, what's not to like? Additionally the Blood Sweat & Tears covers included with the bonus tracks are superb and should have been released back in the day. And she could have made several popular jazz albums on this fine showing ...
I've only really listened to the tip of the iceberg regarding this 8-CD behemoth, and I haven't even got to PATCHWORK - Bobbie's acclaimed last album in 1971 yet but there's
just so much to enjoy here. The FANCY album and title track especially is a particular favourite upping the soul stew and recorded at FAME studios the home of muscle shoals legend.
More: Live @The BBC is sublime and 'Nikky Hokey/Barefootin' is a standout live performance. She could cut it with the very best live. The BBC TV shows were really special...More: Demo's and bonus tracks are where there's gold to be found here, case in point: An intimate and reflective and acoustic 'Season's Come, And The Season's Go' -- and a slew of the gorgeous jazz flavour tracks on the aforementioned TOUCH 'EM WITH LOVE album. Bobbie's voice fits jazz like a glove. Standout: a beautiful and intimate, "This Girl's In Love With You" ...Whispered in your ear.
ODE TO BILLIE JOE & THE DELTA SWEETE are classic Bobbie Gentry, capturing the essence of her Chickasaw County style - but this collection offers so much more and is a portrait of an artist who was without reservation simply sensational. An artist who covered so many
styles with consumate ease and total professionalism.
Easy listening gold: The Bobbie Gentry & Glen Campbell album was described as an attempt to garner some pop hits, and widen
exposure for Bobbie Gentry -- a label it lived up to with panache and their voices go together like honey & molasses. Although maybe not
including enough of her swampy down-home writing and
sound it definitely went for a poppy, lighter kind of feel but here it's all about the songs -- solid gold - every last one -- the album now
resides in my personal top ten of all time with --FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS .
Furthermore Glen and Bobbie sound just beautiful here and never more so than on Bobbie's intimate - MORNING GLORY -- and the equally gorgeous -SUNDAY MORNING - "I'll put coffee on to brew" -- a fantastic song and a fantastic album. Bobbie lived it large back in the day -- performing Elvis Presley tributes in her Las Vegas stage
shows and riding in his limo after the shows, to designing all her own outfits and working on dance routines and being involved in all aspects of
her career. I think she reached the mountain top... My review is just the tip of the iceberg--- find out for yourself about the smart and amazing girl from Chickasaw county. Box set of the year 10/10 .

This box set is magnificent. Everything about it screams quality - the packaging is very well constructed and designed. The accompanying hardback book is so beautiful with many unpublished photos and a very absorbing essay by Andrew Batt. Like myself, every Bobbie Gentry fan must have been overjoyed when this set was released. Having been a fan over 50 years I could hardly believe that I would be hearing not only the original albums, but a whole raft of unreleased recordings - and how amazing those recordings are!
The remastering on this set is superb, it has brought a clarity to the sound that Bobbie’s music deserves, but don’t just take my word for it, if you are a Bobbie Gentry fan BUY IT - you won’t be disappointed!
So much care and attention to detail has gone into every aspect of this box set, I would have given it ten stars if possible. Many thanks to Universal Music and Andrew Batt for working on this project to such great effect, could there be more Bobbie Gentry projects to come?

Here we`ve got a very nicely packed remastered reissue of Bobbie`s artform with all of her 7 original LPs and over 75 previously unreleased songs, outtakes, demos and BBC concert. Included also a nice book with rare photographies postcards illustrated exclusively by David Downton. I was 17 when I got in touch with Bobbie Gentry`s music, 15 years after her first LP came out and I fell in love with her work and had to get all of her albums over music auctions. so much, after all these years waiting for this reissue !!! Highly recommended !

If I'm honest, I'd never really listened to Bobbie Gentry very much, other than the obvious single, I also vaguely remember the BBC tv series, so having a bit of money to blow, I thought I'd take a punt with this box. Wow, am I impressed. What an interesting voice. Also listening to the live at the BBC album, I was struck by the fact that Bobbie's voice seemed better live than on the studio albums.
Glad I took the chance on the box, well worth buying.

there have been acres written in praise of this set, and deservedly so. All I am going to add it that it is superb, worth every penny, and is definitely the best box set in my collection. It just leaves me wanting more Bobby ...

This is a fantastic godsend of a boxset for Bobbie Gentry fans...No longer do you need to seek out the rare Australian Raven releases of these fantastic albums - as they are all here in brilliantly remastered glory in one boxset - costing half of the Beatles White Album deluxe that has just come out. The package is glorious, with detailed liner notes and some fantastic artwork - and the bonus tracks (including a whole bonus lost album) make this a must-purchase....Buy it before it goes out of print!!

After years of picking up compilations at last this is the real deal. A beautiful quality box set of all her recordings in superb sound. Bobbie always was a class act and her style and range is breathtaking. There are no sub standard tracks here. The book screams quality and is very well written.
As a fan I just hope someday there will be a full release of the BBC recordings which include singing with her guests. I have a copy of the shows with Donovan and James Taylor which are excellent.

Great set. Bobbie Gentry was long overdue for this retrospective. She was georgeous, a great songwriter and singer. Her own material is her best. I always felt a lot of it was autobiographical. And she ditched it all at the top of her game and became the great mystery woman of rock and roll.
