    What is HomeAdvisor?

HomeAdvisor is a free online resource for homeowners. The company helps match you with a professional in your area that offers the services you need. The site provides estimated costs for services to help you understand what to expect when requesting quotes. HomeAdvisor has an online booking tool that lets you schedule a fixed-price service without picking up the phone.

Services available on HomeAdvisor include maid services, plumbing repairs, lawn care, electrical services, general contracting and hundreds of others. In general, you can book any home-related work through HomeAdvisor.

The company backs its service with a Happiness Guarantee, promising to make it right if something goes wrong.

    How does HomeAdvisor work?

Using HomeAdvisor's site, you can search for local contractors for multiple types of home repairs or home services. HomeAdvisor prescreens each company and its owner to ensure proper licensing and customer satisfaction.

HomeAdvisor matches you with a contractor by guiding you through a series of questions and providing you with quotes from qualified local contractors. You can also book a fixed-price service immediately online. Alternatively, you can use the search bar to search for a local page for your area and see a list of companies. HomeAdvisor provides a snapshot of each company with relevant information such as services, reviews and phone numbers.

As you compare options, you can directly reach out to HomeAdvisor by phone or live chat.

If you’re not yet ready to contact a local professional, read through some of HomeAdvisor’s articles about the topic you’re searching. The company’s “Resource Center” section of its website contains a library of information about home services and projects.

    HomeAdvisor cost

HomeAdvisor is completely free to use for homeowners searching for information about contractors and professionals in their area. There is no obligation to book a service if you choose to receive quotes.

For contractors who want to promote their business using the platform, HomeAdvisor charges a membership fee of around $300 per year, plus additional fees per lead (anywhere between $15 to $60). The exact cost depends on the business’s location and industry. This price per lead is charged even if the lead doesn’t turn into a customer.

    HomeAdvisor FAQ

How much does it cost to be on HomeAdvisor?

Companies pay to be featured on HomeAdvisor. They pay a membership fee and a price per lead that varies depending on industry and location. Homeowners who are searching for a professional do not need to pay.

    Is HomeAdvisor trustworthy?

For the most part, bad reviews are typically specific to contractors, not homeowners. HomeAdvisor prescreens each business on its site and shows ratings and reviews from previous customers. The company has handled over 100 million service requests, according to its website.

    Is HomeAdvisor worth using?

Yes. Because it’s a free site, HomeAdvisor is a great way to start your search when looking for contractors. Of course, always ask friends and family for recommendations and advice as well.

    Is HomeAdvisor free?

HomeAdvisor is free for homeowners to use. It does charge contractors who want to be featured on the site.

    Is HomeAdvisor legit?

Using HomeAdvisor is a good way for homeowners to find vetted contractors in their area. However, because contractors pay to be featured on the website, it doesn't offer a full picture of all the options available locally. If you’re searching for a local home repair or improvement provider and want to read reviews from other customers, we recommend using HomeAdvisor.

I was very happy with my experience. There was confusion at the beginning, but it was TOTALLY my fault. I had requested quotes for my job, and then at the same time, submitted in the online system a request to have the job done. I ended up working with someone who was local to me, and gave an excellent quote. Then I had to cancel the online system request. Hopefully I did that right!! But my job is done beautifully, professionally, and in my price range.

Great service provided. They had a great company on the site that did a great job. I couldn't be happier with the job and look forward to using them in the future. People who see the work that was done say that it was done very well. I would say that the price was fair. Willie's landscaping crew was able to make recommendations that turned out really well. There's not really much else to say other than I am pleased with the service that I received.

The rear door of our entry door needed replacement and repair of the threshold and door frame. Additional replacement of the garage door seal and securing of the threshold was in need. We both went to Menards and chose the appropriate door with a window and he picked up the appropriate supplies. As he was working on the threshold, he needed to grind down the existing cement entryway to ensure everything fit accurately and he supplied his own wood to make the interior threshold smooth.

J Thomas Construction, Inc. is by far the best I have met to work with in any project. Jason and his team basically rebuilt most of my deck. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail was impeccable. The cost and amount of time it took to do the work was extremely reasonable. The team is respectful. Jason is great at communicating so you always know what is happening and when it is happening. Amazing deck!!!! Thanks Jason and Team!

I needed to find a qualified and available house painter. Very very pleased with the business that was referred. Excellent work and fair price. I was having difficulty even getting a return phone call before turning to HomeAdvisor. I have a 2600 sq ft two story wood home with an unattached office building. My job included power washing, chipped paint scraping and repairing with spackle, taping and covering the windows and doors with plastic, painting the house and office including two coats on the sunny sides of the house, and a separate trim color on all window frames and doors. Power wash one morning and entire prep and paint completed the next day. Perfection.

On 5/7/24, Went to a handyman job through Angi Services set up through HomeAdvisor for some carpentry repairs. Worked for 3 hours, the entire length of the appointment, though job was not complete. Went to arrange an additional appointment with the customer and to collect reimbursement for materials. Customer claims he was told the price for the repair was fixed and materials were included in it.

Angi doesn't work this way. The appointments are based off of time and the materials are literally never included in the quote. There is very specific language regarding the contractor not being required to work outside the original appointment length without compensation; and there literally isn't an option for customers to choose regarding not paying for their own materials, with this job specifically listed as the customer would be providing their own materials.

The job was sold for $300, I was supposed to be paid $108 for 3 hours of work, and the materials were approximately $200. Angi removed payment for the job from my account citing a customer cancellation. Without getting into how confusing I find the idea that something could somehow be cancelled after it already took place, even in the event of a customer cancellation, I am still supposed to be entitled to some payment. I have thus far not been paid for the work or compensated for any material cost.

I had HomeAdvisor try to get a quote for pool solar panel work. I cancelled them before they arrived as I found out they were a SCAM. Their adviser showed up and I told him their work was canceled. I kept getting online bills from them and I contacted my bank to stop payment on their service which was not needed. I had the work done for $75.00 by another service. HomeAdvisor still charged me over $700.oo and never did any work!

Dear contractors, never contact this company. These are scammers. 9 out of 10 leads are false. The fee is charged for all the leads. The real lead they send you is also sent to fifty more contractors, who end up annoying the client so much that he stupidly stops answering phone calls and messages. At the same time, all contractors have to pay for the lead.

My husband and I were starting a cleaning business. We got a call from Angi service, as Home Advisor services. The guy called us to offer us leads, promised that we're going to start making money by Monday, we went and bought supplies, and we were so thrilled about ideas that sound too good to be true. Oh boy, from the beginning it was a nightmare. We kept getting leads, we got ready to go, my husband drove 15 miles a day, we stated we will get whatever even if we have to drive a little far, The first customer told my husband she canceled the service 2 years ago and that was last year 2022. We couldn't understand, it was a fake lead to get us excited. So the next one was a fake lead again.

We received many other phone calls, some we answer, no customers pickup, just like the first 3, we then refused to make drive by. We even tried a last one that was closed enough, drove there, the person told my husband not to come back on his property. He does not have business with Home Advisor. Every call we received from then were fake. They start charging us fees, that we have not dealt with. So since the guy promised us our deposit money back guaranteed, we were pretty upset by then. We decided to call them so they could stop sending us fake services and requested for our money back with acct to be close. My husband told them to cancel, we do not want to do business with them at all. Do you know what?

After sending us our money back they continue to charge us for leads that we don't even accept. About 15-20 calls a day, we got to a point, we wanted to changed phone numbers. We spoke to the manager, he kept asking us to continue, he apologized, we said, NO. Got our money back and we moved on. We then PUT everything aside, continue with our daily 9-5 jobs. They still charged us even though we cancel. They took about 600.00 from our bank. We called, they apologize and tried to forced us to accept free leads, we said "NO".

My husband went to the bank, and showed the bank the refund receipt, it was supposed to be a closed account from home advisor. So we disputed it, got our money back, then the bank closed the card. WE DO NOT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. WE WERE CLEAR. So we continue to ignore them. Last month we received a collection letter under OUR small cleaning business we are trying to build, not even 1 customer from them, they want to SUE US according the letter. They are fake!!!

We need angi and home advisor, whoever you are, to please take my business off your list. We do not owe them a dime. We never do business with you, we were very upset, because they kept on calling us nonstop after our refund, but phone calls kept coming. We called and pleaded them to stop. We do not owe them money. We never work with you, not even one deal was legit. We desperately need help from a law firm. We are desperate. We reported them to Bbb. They claimed to reduce the payment that we owe to 500.00. We do not owe Angilist, Angie, home advisor. This is my complaint

      Please help!!!

"We followed up with Sandrina and Junior regarding their account, the adjustments made, a partial refund given, and pausing the request for a month. They agreed to stay in the Angi network. Due to non-payment, he did incur a balance owed to the account. We present a fair adjustment to the balance to resolve their complaint. The offer is available at any time if he chooses to accept the offer in the future. We consider the matter closed"."

If there was 0 rating, I'll give them a ZERO.

I used color, splash painting for my kitchen cabinets. They did a fantastic job. In a few more months, I’m going to have them come and paint a few rooms in my house couldn’t ask for anything better than what they did.
