During a new interview, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings lead actor Simu Liu confirmed Shang-Chi 2 is still happening. The film premiered almost three years ago, but there aren't many details about its highly-anticipated sequel.

Simu Liu stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and, between conversations about his time on Barbie, the Oscar performance of "I'm Just Ken," and his upcoming Netflix film, Atlas, the actor also addressed the Shang-Chi sequel. The superhero film premiered in 2021 to huge acclaim, and, although Marvel Studios confirmed a sequel is in the works, so far, there aren't many details about the production or release date. However, Liu clarified that a sequel is "definitely happening."

Simu Liu Promises the Shang-Chi Sequel Is Still Happening
Despite the lack of updates from Marvel Studios and Disney, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu says the sequel to the successful 2021 movie is still happening.

When the topic of Shang-Chi came up, the actor asked Fallon, "you want me to lose my job, is that it?" even before getting into the sequel's details. The reference is about Marvel Studios, which are notorious for going to extreme lengths to keep secrets until the films hit theaters. "This is where I use all the mental gymnastics that I possibly can to answer this question," Liu added.

"I will say this. It's definitely happening, I should probably lead with that," the actor confirmed. "People, whether it's online or in person, ask me every single day and tell me every single day how much they enjoyed the first movie and how much of a moment it was. And I think there's just so much goodwill, and I'm so deeply appreciative of that. So please know that if you've ever sent me a message, if you've ever asked about a sequel or just approached or any which way, I really take it to heart, and I really, really appreciate it." He concluded, "I think I speak for myself and Destin [Daniel Cretton], our returning director, when I say that we're so beyond excited to jump back in."

Simu Liu Also Detailed Almost Disastrous "I'm Just Ken" Oscar Performance

Simu Liu also starred in 2023's Barbie as one of the Kens. On top of playing one of the Kens in the film, the actor was also part of Ryan Gosling's Oscar performance of the hit song "I'm Just Ken." Although the performance was great, there were many ways it could've gone wrong, especially as they didn't have much time to rehearse the choreography.

"It was exciting because it was dangerously close to being disastrous," Liu revealed. He went on to explain, "I don't know how long Ryan had with it, but we got the call relatively late in the game. So, the Oscars are on Sunday. We show up for the first rehearsal on Thursday, which is in the studio with Ryan and his choreographer, Mandy Moore, who's amazing. They worked together on 2016's La La Land. And so we're there for the first time."

Liu explained that they spent "hours and hours" going through the choreography, which changed "entirely" on Friday, and again on Saturday. They had to come in on Sunday again before the show, go home after rehearsals, change, and perform it on stage live. "We pulled it off," Liu admitted.
