Although Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went their separate ways, they were, at one point in their lives, close enough to have children together. In 2002, Angelina Jolie adopted Maddox from an orphanage in Cambodia. This was two years before she and Brad officially got together in 2004.

A year after they started dating, Jolie adopted Zahara from Ethiopia. In 2006, two years after Angelina and Brad started dating, the couple welcomed their first daughter together: Shiloh.

Their son Pax Thien was adopted from Vietnam shortly after, but it seems the couple wasn’t ready to stop growing their family quite yet. In 2008, they welcomed twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt was adopted from Cambodia in 2002 when he was only seven months old, but his adoption almost wasn’t approved. Due to concerns about child trafficking at the time, all adoptions were put on hold. Fortunately, Jolie was able to use her star power to go through with the adoption.

Angelina Jolie was legally married to Billy Bob Thornton when she adopted Maddox as a single parent. Brad Pitt formally adopted the child in 2006, only one year after meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Although Brad Pitt was reportedly banned from attending Maddox’s 16th birthday party in 2017, it appears that they reconnected. In 2020, Brad Pitt skipped the BAFTA Awards in London to spend time with his son while he was home from college.

Maddox had a small cameo role as a zombie in Brad Pitt’s World War Z, leading many to suspect that he would follow his famous parents into acting. However, he attended Yonsei University in South Korea to study biochemistry.

Zahara is Angelina Jolie’s oldest daughter and second adopted child. Angelina Jolie adopted Zahara from Ethiopia in January 2005, when she was only six months old. Zahara was later adopted by Brad Pitt, but it seems she has remained closer to her mother after the divorce.

  • In February 2021, Jolie revealed that they both use the same perfume and other scented products from the luxury brand Guerlain.

Although fans loved the fun fact about the mother-and-daughter duo, they were sad to learn that Zahara had undergone several surgeries in 2020. To protect her daughter’s privacy, Jolie did not explain why her daughter needed surgery.

However, it seems that her daughter has made a full recovery. In August 2022, Angelina Jolie dropped her daughter off at Spelman College. The following year, Zahara pledged to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

In addition to being a full-time college student, she has also been seen attending various humanitarian events with her mother, like advocating for the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is the first child of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. She was born in 2006, in Namibia, where the family had been spending time. While her parents were together, she attended her mother's humanitarian efforts and even attended the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles when she was sixteen.

However, things seemed to take a turn after their divorce. In March 2024, Shiloh expressed her desire to live with Brad Pitt when she turned eighteen, which reportedly put her at odds with her parents. Despite allegations that Angelina Jolie prevented the children from seeing Brad Pitt, an insider said that Brad Pitt was making an effort to be closer to the children.

“Brad is determined to regain their trust so he can continue to be in their lives as adults,” the source shared, noting that he “hopes one day there will be peace in their hearts” in regards to the contentious divorce.

Although Angelina Jolie adopted Maddox and Zahara when they were very young, Pax Thien was already a toddler when he was adopted by Angelina Jolie in 2007. Born in Vietnam in November 2003, Pax faced difficulty being adopted due to a Vietnamese law that makes it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt.

Fortunately, he was able to be adopted by Jolie in 2007 and by Pitt the following year.

Pax reportedly developed a strong bond with his older brother Maddox and got to return to Vietnam on his eighth birthday in order to see his home. Although he has stayed out of the spotlight, it appears that he might follow in his parents’ footsteps and head into the entertainment industry.

Not only did he voice the character Yoo in Jolie’s 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3, but Pax is rumored to be dating actress Carmen Blanchard, who is best known for her role in American Horror Story. The two were photographed enjoying an ice cream date in 2023.

Just like Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne are the children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Eternals actress sparked quite a frenzy when she debuted her baby bump at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2008. She gave birth in Nice, France. Knox was reportedly born a few minutes before Vivienne.

Angelina Jolie said that Knox was “a lot like Brad” both “emotionally and physically” when he was a toddler, but it seems the two twins are a lot alike. In addition to having a love for animals, both have already had a brush with the entertainment industry before turning sixteen.

Knox voiced the character of Ku Ku in Kung Fu Panda 3 while Vivienne portrayed the younger version of Aurora in 2014’s Maleficent, in which Angelina Jolie also starred.

Fortunately, Brad Pitt seems to have a close relationship with Knox and Vivienne, even after the divorce. Although the Fight Club actor has kept their relationship out of the public eye, he reportedly still finds a way to see them regularly, even though they will live with their mother full-time until they turn eighteen.

Although she has not spoken publicly about wanting more children, Angelina Jolie told the Wall Street Journal that her six children are her close friends and admitted that she doesn’t “really have” a “social life” outside of her interactions with them.

"They are the closest people to me and my life, and they’re my close friends," she said in December 2023. "We’re seven very different people, which is our strength."

It is also unclear if Jolie’s future partner might want any more children. One source claimed that Angelina Jolie has been dating two different men after her divorce from Brad Pitt: British activist Akala and Broadway composer Justin Levine.

While some fans still want Angelina Jolie to adopt more children of her own, others are wondering when she will become a grandmother for the first time!
