Marist College is a good school! Has excellent academic courses and professor who want to see you succeed. The campus is beautiful, and everyone is very nice. I very much liked the classes. The students in each course were very diverse and there were always different views on topics that helped to provide different insight. I also liked how all the staff were pleasant to be around. They were always kind no matter who you were, and they also made you feel welcome.
This school is an absolute perfect fit for me and I will say that within a year of being there I already see improvement. Unfortunately, it is a bit pricey and many people say that campus/ party life is down, however, I truly believe that as long as you work/ look for it then you will find it. I absolutely love my classes and I can always find something to do. The campus is beautiful and everyone there is so nice. While I love it, I understand why other people struggle to find that same love.
I Love Marist College. Getting acclimated to college is hard but Marist is like a community and feels like home. I call Marist my home away from home because that's exactly what it is. You get a unique college experience here and I wouldn't trade it for the world. GOO RED FOXESS!!!
I have had an amazing first year at Marist. I am really impressed with the academics: classes are challenging, interesting and meaningful. The professors have been excellent. The students here are super friendly. Freshmen dorms are pretty typical, but after first year the dorms are amazing. There is always something to do. Location is beautiful on the river. So happy here.
Since coming to Marist, I have felt welcomed, challenged and supported. I truly can’t see myself anywhere else.
Marist has great academic resources available, but as far as learning goes, you primarily have to teach yourself the topics then have your professors fill in any gaps. Professors are very hit or miss. There are LOTS of tutoring and extra help services available which helps. Housing is generally good, dorms are nice, however, recently the college has been over admitting so there's no guarantee of housing for junior and senior students, and even this semester (Spring 2024) housing was a big stressor as many soon to be sophomores didn't get housing during the first round(there's two). There are lots of ways to meet people and get involved- clubs, athletics, intramural sports, and just events on campus. The dining hall can be good but it's also hit or miss. There are restaurants, fast food, and grocery stores near by which is nice and in walking distance, also the campus is gorgeous. Not a lot of parties, a few throughout the semester but most go to bars.
Marist is a beautiful campus! It has amazing music & theatre programs! Professors are caring and involved with students . There are many clubs, activities and internship opportunities.
Marist College was an incredible college for me personally with an average 25 student class, making it easy for you to become close and make connections with your professors. The location being right on the Hudson River along with the beautiful architecture and landscaping was something I appreciated everyday. Most of my professors were respectful and helpful with the very little exceptions I have heard from other students. While I was a student, the food could have been a lot better considering the price of the college
I’m a freshman at Marist College, and I'm transferring out.
Marist is a super isolating place- unless you're on a sports team or in Greek life. I got lucky and found my friends immediately, but Marist still sucks. This campus is full of entitled and bigoted people. Clubs are very few and never meet weekly- often only twice a semester. You can't have a car on campus basically until junior year. That means you're stuck on campus, and there's not much to do here.
Everyone wants to transfer Freshman year- the ones who stick around either get used to this place or are too lazy to transfer. Academics are honestly a joke. If you like being academically stimulated AT ALL go somewhere else. Professors have been forced to make classes easier since students complain about doing any work. Marist is just a safety school, and yes it has been fixed up to be pretty... but please consider if you'd rather be depressed with a view of the Hudson River or happy at a state school.

After have almost completed my first year at Marist college I can wholeheartedly say that it has given me the opportunity to grow as a person in the best ways possible. Once a very codependent person, I have grown to love being alone and embraced independence. Marist has helped me realise that my success in school is primarily dependent on me. The professors push us outside of our comfort zones but create an environment free of judgment and that encourages collaboration. I have meet a lot of cool people and taken away lessons from each one of them. The campus life is lively weather it be club meetings, sports games, or movie screenings. Ones success is prioritized here. I have found it very easy to ask questions in office hours and seek help outside of the classroom. The library's learning center has connected me with tutors, reviewed papers, and helped me with citations. The career center has also been proactive, helping my freshmen self get off on the right foot as well.
Overall, my experience with Marist College has been very good from an academic standpoint. When it comes to education, Marist has a variety of sources and opportunities in order for students to achieve their goals in the careers they wish to go in. At Marist, I feel like the experiences I have been receiving in terms of opportunities is something I have been enjoying the most. One aspect of the school that I would like to see change for the betterment of the students is the food quality. Although the food quality has improved throughout the past couple of years, I still feel like there is a lot more that can be done, in terms of what meals are cooked, how they are cooked, and the variety of food options that area available for students on campus.
Marist is an excellent college. Their academics are top notch, and therefore very challenging. They offer such a diversity of programs including academic, social and athletic. There is always something to be involved with across various organizations and companies. The dormitories are in excellent condition and very safe. Marist continues to be an excellent choice for me.
There are a lot of amazing aspects about Marist college! The main struggle with Marist is student life on campus. There are not a lot of activities on campus and you don't get to leave campus often without a car. This means each person needs to find ways to have fun on their own. It encourages you to make friends and be self sufficient but I think it would be nice to have more campus involvement.
Good solid college. Has a strong academic standing and it shows. Athletics is very big at Marist along with clubs. Very beautiful campus along the Hudson River. Easy to access other campus needs across the street at local stores.
I love the atmosphere of Marist. It is very accepting and the professors really do want to help you. I wish they would spend money on things like dorms, not building a new track field.
Marist college is a great fit for me because it is on the smaller size scale of schools. Once you find your people, everything will fall into place. Obviously it is hard for people to adjust once they first arrive, but that happens at any school. You need to work hard to find your friends, interests, and proper study habits.
Not the worst, not the best. The area of poughkeepsie is not walkable in my opinion cars get broken into, paintballed etc. Be prepared to spend a good amount of money ubering everywhere and getting food off campus because the food here often gives students food poisoning.
I studied at the Florence, Italy campus and I really loved my advisor and my all of my professors. However, the campus needs to be developed much more- they are under staffed and more could be done to properly support their students. I think with more staff and more support in areas such as housing, am student clubs and activities, and work study opportunities, the program would dramatically improve.
I enjoy Marist because in regards to my major, there are several courses that work on actually making you succeed in that field, not just giving generic information. The amount of professional connections you can make at Marist is also very high, and it is the reason a lot of graduates find professional jobs in their desired field of study quite quickly after graduation. The student community is also extremely fun, and I have made some lifelong friends because of it. I also am a huge advocate for the Music program; it’s so fun and a huge part of my enjoyment of life on campus.
I really enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and amazing staff that are committed to helping their students succeed. The staff goes above and beyond to create a positive and meaningful learning environment.
