The Courthouse hotel garners appreciation for its comfortable and stylish rooms, with the cleanliness being a particular highlight. However, some guests have noted that rooms can feel too cold and dimly lit. While many travelers commend the friendly and attentive staff, a few point out occasional service inefficiencies. The hotel's prime location is well-regarded for its accessibility to attractions and dining. Guests' opinions on value and atmosphere are divided; some enjoy the hotel's vibrant charm and restaurant, while others find it lacks warmth and can be noisy.

We absolutely loved every minute of our visit to the Courthouse, from the welcome by the receptionist who took us to our room to the special touches found daily within our room.
We stayed in room 8 which was designed with a beautiful combination of modern
and antique furniture.
The bedroom featured a classical wooden four poster bed with a seperate seating area complete with an incredible en suite, raindrop shower, his and hers sinks with a freestanding bath situated underneath a skylight.

The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of the picturesque town of Knutsford.

Our only recommendation would be that the skylight causes a slight draft in the bath but nothing that affected our experience.

A wonderful experience. On an impromptu meal out on a cold January weekday we were warmly greeted and looked after really well all evening. Balazs in particular was lovely. The restauant space is grand (without being impersonal), welcoming and comfortable. The food was extremely good (fabulous Hake dish!). The kitchen staff deserve huge praise for their great skill. Would recommend without hesitation

My wife and I got married at The Courthouse on 01/06/2022 and to say that it was a special day would be an understatement. The majority of that is down to the excellent team at The Courthouse who helped the day run so smoothly.

Throughout our planning process, we had the support of Bethany who was diligent, organised and everything you would want in a wedding coordinator. We felt completely at ease leading up to the day as the structure had been laid out clearly and thoughtfully. Bethany was so supportive and so knowledgeable. She had answers to all of our questions and accommodated all our requests.

The food on the day was excellent, all of our guests commented on how delicious it was. The starter of chicken parfait or feta cheese salad went down fantastically and although we requested more bread for the parfait at the start of the meal, the staff were quickly out with more bread for all of our guests without even a second thought! The roasted lamb was cooked to perfection even with the meal being served to 70 guests. The butternut squash lattice was also an excellent vegetarian option and satisfied many of our guests. Lastly came the chocolate brownie and that was truly wonderful, especially since it was gluten-free. Speaking of allergens, they accommodated all of the various allergies our guests had with no issue. One guest even had an entirely separate meal that in of itself was wonderful I hear.

The staff themselves were wonderful, the bar staff and those who served the food and drinks throughout the day were so accommodating and provided an excellent service. We barely noticed the transitions from ceremony to drinks reception to wedding breakfast to reception. Whilst we had not discussed where all the decorations would go within the transitions, the staff placed them perfectly.

A special mention goes out to the night porter Tesagye, who was lovely towards the end of our night and helped along with the other staff members to collect up the decorations so we could easily grab them in the morning. He was very gracious as the last of our guests left the venue.

The wedding party and a couple of our parents used all 9 of the rooms at the courthouse and there were no complaints. The bridal room was lovely and spacious with an excellent shower and bathroom facilities. They were perfectly clean when we arrived and we didn't feel too pressured when we checked out at 11:00 on the dot.

It should also be noted that our breakfast server Colin was very welcoming and a friendly face to meet as we came down for breakfast the following morning. Like all of the staff, very accommodating, friendly and possessed great customer service skills.

All in all The Courthouse was a lovely venue, staffed by an amazing team who truly make our day special.

We booked the valentine dinner, bed and breakfast and stayed here last Friday. What a disappointment. As previous reviews have said the checking in and front of house is quite unique and not very customer friendly. We knew it was going to be chilly when we spotted the calor gas fire in reception ! After checking in we were shown to the room, it was freezing, it would have been nice if they had turned the heating on knowing they had guests arriving. There is no heating in the bathroom, both the bedroom and bathroom have high ceilings, and the bathroom has a tiled floor, it was unpleasantly cold, even when the heating had been turned up to the maximum for hours, it takes the chill off but does not warm the room. The heat comes from vents in the ceiling, which are directly over your head in bed, so it's sends an uncomfortable, annoying breeze into your face whilst you are trying to sleep. The beds are very, very firm. The package included a bottle of Prosecco in our room, which we didn't receive. There was an opened hot chocolate packet in the tea/coffee tray, so when it was moved to get tea bags, it's spilt all over the counter, my husband and his clothes. There was dust everywhere, I took a photo of the telephone. We went out to a local pub to get warm ! before dinner. I will review the food separately. To get to the room you have to go via a banqueting room, it is absolutely freezing and such a strange way to get to your room. We were told we could use it to sit in if we wanted !! There is also a staircase from the annexe rooms to a separate exit. I was really shocked that none of the exits were secure, there were electronic boxes on the exterior and interior doors to the stairway, presumably you would use your key fob, but none of them were in working and locking any of the entrances. Anybody could get into the hotel at any time. There was also a large piece of broken glass on this stairway. Overall the hotel just doesn't feel secure, comfortable or welcoming, when checking out, again a very strange experience, a couple waiting with us just left their key, tutted loudly and strode out of the hotel, presumably they had been waiting some time for somebody to come and help them. We explained to the person serving breakfast who checked us out of all the issues, we were told that we would receive an email, we are still waiting for this. I did receive a generic email from the hotel asking for feedback, I completed this and asked them to call me, there has been no call. I would not recommend this hotel, it definitely does not represent good value for money, or a fair price for the luxury accommodation it claims to be, such a disappointment for a special evening.

The room I was put up in was painted completly blue which would be nice if there was any natural light able to get into the room. The only window is facing away from the sun. And with no main light on the ceiling the room feels dark and cold, so with only bedside lights and a couple other tiny spot lights all switched on to rely on it barely lights the room. The lack of soft furnishings in the room apart from the bed and a chair only exacerbates the dark, cold and cell like properties of the room. But to be honest it's probably a good thing that you can't really see in there because the amount of chips in the paintwork and real overall poor quality Finnish of the room would really show through. Perhaps that's why there isn't enough lights in there to disguise against it. To top it off the main women's toilets were broken, so they had to share the mens. Found the staff to poorly trained and oblivious. What a fantastic shame it is that such a grand building has found itself in the hands of such an incompetent company. The building has such high potential at the very centre of such and affluent area. Yet the complete sub standard of its finnish. Mismanagement. Lack of customer service has left it near enough a ghost town. Do the right thing and sell it to a company that appreciates it

This hotel has lost its charm , awful restaurant, terrible staff.
The rooms , which are not cheap , had no shower gel , faulty taps , cold shower , leftovers From previous guests etc ,
The restaurant has lost everything. Nothing like it used to be, lost all character , small menu choice , awful food, my steak was cold by the time my sauce arrived for it , terrible service and the staff very under qualified .
Breakfast was pathetic, to the point where when we asked for the black pudding that comes with it , “ oh we have none “ oh thanks !! The poached egg was rock solid and the toast came AFTER we had eaten
Such a pity

We had our wedding reception at The Courthouse last week and it was just brilliant. All the staff working on the day need a special mention as everything went seamlessly. A lot of people have commented since on the quality of the food which was "the best Ive ever had at a wedding" - so a big thank you to everyone working in the kitchen on the night! We didnt want a big fancy event and so had our reception in the Moneypenny suite which was just perfect. Prior to the event, Josh was so helpful with us picking out our wines and food and the rest of the event staff were all very helpful too. Nothing was too much trouble. The room looked fantastic - just what we had asked for, and the waiting staff were always on hand with drinks - big thanks to Crystal and everyone else who was working. The rooms were really lovely too. I would highly recommend this as a wedding venue we simply had the best day :)

I received a marketing flyer as I work local in Knutsford so decided after reading the PR update of new chef and management to give it a go.
All I can say is I was totally disappointed and underwhelmed ! After booking a table just for two 5 days in advance the hostess/waitress lacked a warm welcome and seemed confused.
We were taken to a table that was so close to the others we may as well have been sat on the laps of the other guests. Sandwiched into a small space we waited over 45 minutes to give put drinks order, of which a standard glass of red wine was £11 ! There wasn’t enough waiting on staff for a Saturday night, and seemed like no authority or organisation.
We ordered the pork loin and cannelloni only to be told there was no cannelloni so would tortellini be ok ! Our food took over an hour which was again disappointing when it was 2 simple mains.
Portions were so small, both meals were too dry and the pork loin was as tough as old boots.
The D.J was a waste of space playing to 6 tables of people wanting to enjoy food and conversation. Are you a classy restaurant or trashy cocktail bar ??
We didn’t stay for cocktails as we knew the lost and found over the road would be a safer option for service, standards and value.
If this is a ‘relaunch’ then something’s gone terribly wrong. I suggest back to the drawing board to survive in the current tough climate. Sorry courthouse, you really do need to try harder !

We were married at The Courthouse in Nov 2020 and had our larger wedding celebration in Nov 2021. The venue itself is stunning and we were so excited to get married there. However, by the end we regretted choosing The Courthouse as what should have been a joyous time planning our wedding turned into an absolute nightmare.

We experienced poor communication and customer service throughout the planning process, due in part to the high turnover of staff particularly wedding co-ordinators - we were in contact with 7 in total over two years. There was virtually no handover between wedding co-ordinators, which resulted in many repetitive meetings, and significant frustration. This poor customer experience was acknowledged in the form of complimentary items and upgrades but despite being promised improvements in communication, which would have reduced anxiety and stress, nothing changed for the better. Another stressor was the venue constantly moving the goalposts with respect to when renovations would be completed. We were advised to change our original date of Sept 2020 to Nov 2020 to ensure the restaurant would be finished so we did. As of Feb 2022, the restaurant is still not complete. Although we appreciate that some of the delays in refurbishment were due to COVID, the way this was handled and communicated was very poor.

On the day of our wedding celebration, everything ran smoothly and the staff were pleasant and very attentive to guests. However, there were aspects that were disappointing. For example, the food lacked finesse (some of the dessert was still frozen when served), the venue was very cold and the bedrooms were not finished despite charging £150 (e.g. no working lights in two of the bedrooms including the bridal suite, broken shower). On providing this feedback the next day, we were told that the inadequate heating and absence of lighting was because the venue was not officially open... we would argue that hosting our event meant the venue was open. We were assured the following day that one of our guests would be refunded but we are still waiting for this despite chasing on multiple occasions over the past 12 weeks. We tried to chase this by posting on the venue's social media pages but our comments were hidden/deleted and not responded to.

Overall, we were left with a sour taste in our mouth. The venue has a lot of potential but we would caution against booking until it is more established as a wedding venue and all planned major refurbishments have been completed.

Walked in pre 6pm and couldn’t hear ourselves think, the music was so loud.
Ordered a round of drinks only to be told that they “don’t have the guest ale as the workmen drank it all” (when they left about a month ago and you haven’t taken a new delivery?!)
The drinks took 15 mins to arrive and we were presented with a warm bottle of beer that we had to return.
Ordered our food and 10 mins later were advised that they “don’t have any more fries”!
Ordered 2nd glass of wine and was advised that they don’t have the same one, we asked if they were having a bad day only to be rudely told “no, it’s been busy but every restaurant runs out of stuff”, not exactly an apology! We were offered an alternative wine but not advised that it was way more expensive and didn’t realise it until we were presented with the bill.
The only saving grace was that the food was nice.
