In its 17th year, a Multi-Piano Extravaganza was performed by the CSULB Bob Cole Conservatory of Music on April 13.

This program features both undergraduate and graduate young pianists. It offers community support, holding special events and fundraising efforts for numerous nonprofits in the Long Beach area. The musicians under the direction of Shun-Lin Chou, director of keyboard studies, included: Yitong Ding, Grace Hong, Robin Huang, Yanjun Liu, John Lonergan, Yinlin Ma, Clara Nguyen, Theodore Thai and Derik Soltanian.

Numerous times in the last 10 or more years, the Seal Beach home of Lyn and John Pohlmann has become the site of “Prosecco, High Tea and Faziolis,” a lunch donated to various groups in the community for events celebrating a fundraising occasion or time of installation and the beginning of a new year of service.

On April 27, a high tea was held. It was purchased at the International City Theater’s Encore Fund Raiser last fall. Anna Ortiz, CSULB Dean of the College of Education, purchased the opportunity to invite 19 friends. Included were staff, faculty and students from the education department. They enjoyed this memorable event that featured tea, prosecco, savory sandwiches, dainty cookies, and other sweets, as a precursor to a full program of two piano pieces played on matching Fazioli pianos.

Seen at the scene: Anna Ortiz, Hayley Miller, Lori Curci-Reed, Kristin Powers, Christina Ryan Rodrigues, Gopal and Neelam Agarwal, Sue Parsons, Carol Beck, Barbara Seelgen Ellis, Charles and Sandy Slater.

On April 25, about 20 members of the Seal Beach group of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County raised funds to give school children the opportunity to attend live music performances. They also donated instruments to schools, that were collected from the community. The Philharmonic Society will also provide volunteer ushers for special concerts at Segerstrom Hall, rehearsals of the Orange County Youth Symphony and for staffing the annual fundraiser Huntington Harbor Cruise of Lights.
