We visited for the Costa Rican Cup game between Deportivo Saprissa and Alajuelense. Once we located the entrance corresponding to our tickets, we had no difficulty finding our seats and thoroughly enjoying the game. The fans were nuts – incessantly chanting and singing (not to mention the smoke bombs), but quite well-behaved and friendly (glad they were not selling beer). Very limited concession stand for drinks and snacks at halftime. Overall quite Buena!

The National Stadium continues to offer great memorable experiences. This time we went for a Soccer match between Costa Rica and Uruguay. The infrastructure remains very well kept, bathrooms are clean and there is a lot of security and food services.

This stadium was built by Chinese workers on the site of the old national stadium. It was finished in less time than it took Costa Ricans to finish one kilometer of 4 lane road near the stadium. It is used for concerts, special holiday celebrations and. of course, football (soccer). Seats are reasonably comfortable and views are almost all unobstructed. There are sufficient restrooms but you are very limited in what you can carry into the stadium and food and beverage costs are high.

35,000 seat stadium with roof inspired by the shape of a coffee bean. Paid for by the Chinese as thanks for dropping Taiwan and aligning with mainland China instead. The stadium is surrounded by Huawei flags, so you don't forget.

I was at Guns n Roses and the stadium was full.
The Staidium itself its a first world experience, they have a lot of security and during the concert they only sold beer without alcohol and it was not allowed to smoke too. This is a very good way to respect the stadium and the culture. The sound of the Guns n Roses was amazing too.
Very good Stadium Nacional, keep goiiiing and YOU ROOOCK!!!!!!'

I was lucky enough to attend the Costa Rica vs. USA qualifier. The final score was 4-0 to the hosts and that result ultimately cost Juergen Klinnsmann his job.... The atmosphere was amazing for the whole game - part celebration part national pride.
The stadium itself - 5 years and built as a gift by the government of China - is a great stadium with great views of the playing area.
That said, it has a couple of flaws --
1 - getting IN for a busy game was a P.I.T.A. and the modernity of the stadium is not matched by efficient security or ticketing procedures.
2 - there's no alcohol allowed in the stadium so if you're planning on making an evening of it, make plans before or after.
3 - the running track around the pitch means that you're not close to the action. I can only imagine the atmosphere if you were...
4 - facilities inside aren't great. You've got zero chance of making it to the bathroom at half time....
5 - getting to the stadium and parking seems to be a huge issue, as does making it away from the stadium afterwards, although that's more to do with San Jose's infrastructure than the stadium itself.
That said - a beautiful place to watch soccer on a lovely, warm evening and I'd love to go again.

A stunning structure - state-of-the-art stadium in an otherwise somewhat shabby park. The National Stadium really accentuates the joy of Costa Rican sport (football) in the NW corner of the park. And there's a brand new Starbucks just opened up across the street (to the west) from the Stadium!

This stadium was donated by the Chinese government. Sometimes Saprissa a local soccer team plays their home matches here. Easy access and transportation services

vendors outside sometimes sell you tickets for the wrong day, be careful. I heard the ´box office´ is at a school like a mile away from the stadium. There is only 1 entrance. You cannot take in coins or batteries for fear of fans throwing them at players which are almost not even in throwable distance because the track surrounds the field. On a wednesday night, maybe 500 costa rican fans filled up the seats, in a stadium that can hold 35,000. I dont think they will ever fill the stadium for any event. A personal pizza is 6 dollars. Beside all of that he game wasn´t bad so, I would recommend a visit to an event. The cost to see 3 games was $12 so thats not bad

¿¿Hay tour por dentro de el estadio??
Quiero ir a verlo pero tengo dudas.
Hi Joseph,
Do you know how i would get tickets to the Nov 13 2015 Costa Rica vs Haiti match at the Estadio Nacional. I am in the US but will be traveling to CR during that time.
Thanks!
Kristin
