      2017 Drama List
93% Tomatometer 199 Reviews 95% Audience Score 1,000+ Ratings Based on the same-titled bestseller by Liane Moriarty, "Big Little Lies" weaves a darkly comedic tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, Calif. Amidst doting moms, successful husbands, beautiful children, and stunning homes exists a community fueled by rumors and divided into haves and have-nots, exposing fractured relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbors. Told through the eyes of three mothers -- Madeline, Celeste and Jane -- the series' narrative explores society's myths regarding perfection and its romanticization of marriage, sex, parenting and friendship. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley star as the three prominent "mothers of Monterey." Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Buy Now

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It's brash, funny, subversive, bittersweet, and heartbreaking, like a season of The Real Housewives rewritten by Todd Haynes and then performed by a cadre of talented actresses each, in their distinctive way, holding nothing back. Rated: 4/5 Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Lauren Carroll Harris Guardian A disturbingly clear-sighted satire of aspiration, competitive parenting and social perfectionism. Jul 31, 2019 Full Review Rachel Syme The New Republic What I took away from the finale is that there are some lies that must be shared, some burdens that can only be relieved by a mutually-understanding community. Jun 3, 2019 Full Review Mirelle Tinker Mediaversity Reviews Big Little Lies features dynamic and engaging women-an effort that unfortunately does not extend to race or sexuality. Rated: C Sep 19, 2020 Full Review Angela L. Harmon The NitPic Impeccably structured, beautiful style. The murder mystery is fun for the first watch, but even when you know the end this show is a blast. Dec 11, 2019 Full Review Rhys Tarling Isolated Nation It's a well-acted and mostly well-written production though, and at a brisk 7 episodes, there's little time for things to drag. Just be prepared to roll your eyes a handful of times in between marvelling at most of the good stuff. Sep 27, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

First name L A solid execution of one of my favorite novels. Often discarded as "a beach read," it deftly handles dark subjects. Casting, chemistry, and the script are sensational. The second season is pointless when everything about this outing is perfect already. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Suburb talent and intimate storylines make Big Little Lies Season 1 a pleasure to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review Catherine G I know I am late to this but I have just watched Season 1 and was hooked from the start. Loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Louise C An addictive series that grabbed my interest right from the start. As I discovered it on NEON NZ two days before my subscription ran out, I binge-watched both seasons between early evening the first day and until 2:30pm the second day. It is a well-crafted storyline that maintains its momentum right the way through. Season Two is of the same high quality as the first season. All of the cast suit their characters and it was great to see a development in most of them over the story arc. It is not often that I give a glowing, uncritical review of TV series, and this is one that merits it. HIghly recommended. 9/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Toni M One of my all time favorite TV shows! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Savannah G Cunning!
