We just completed a stay at the Courtyard in Portsmouth, NH. The hotel is on the older side but the rooms appear to have been renovated recently with the design of the newer Courtyards. The wallpaper, light fixtures, and furniture match the newer properties.

They tried their best to accommodate an upgrade from double queen room to a slightly bigger one with single sofa bed. The first room we got had a faulty heating unit making a burning smell and we had to be moved to the same room one floor down. On the second day a strip of wallpaper fell off. The GM was very apologetic and rectified the issue immediately. It could have been due to the recent rainy weather in the area but the humidity level felt high in the room.

The pool is one of the nicest ones I have encountered in a Courtyard. It’s quite large and is L-shaped with an impressive and spacious lounge area around the perimeter.

Overall the service by the front desk and Bistro were professional. The hotel is on the older side but the location could not be beat. It’s inside a forested area five minutes away from downtown Portsmouth with free parking. Even at full capacity I cannot imaging the lot to be half filled so finding a spot is a non issue. I would choose this property over the newer ones by downtown or the coast.

This is a very good hotel. The establishment takes pride in “putting their best foot forward.”
There are a few things, however, I would like to suggest to the hotel. First, with the renovation efforts, please remember to add toilet tissue holders and trash cans to the bathrooms. The absence of these items is annoying. Also, the air conditioning is definitely less than adequate. Finally, the hotel restaurant at the breakfast buffet has wait staff that have no difficulty sharing with you that they are over worked.
We hope these small issues are corrected at this good establishment by the time of our next visit.

This hotel is an older building that has been nicely renovated. The hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Each room haS a microwave! That is a very rare thing to find. When traveling for business it gets old eating in a restaurant. Having a microwave is a huge plus! The fridges are the taller ones that can actually hold a good amount of items.
Two thing to take note of:
If you are in the front of the hotel the highway traffic is quite loud. I was woken several times by jake brakes.
The other thing is try and get a room without a balcony in the winter. It’s a rare thing for me to set a thermostat at 70 degrees. Because the balcony door/windows allowed cold air in, the thermostat was set at 74. If you sit near the balcony your feet will get cold.
House keeping is loud. I happened to be in my room after 2pm to get some rest and it sounded like the head of house keeping was disciplining a house keeper that accidentally went into a room that didn’t want service. The housekeeper was being talked to like she was a child. Had I not had such a bad headache I would have opened my door and told her to be quiet or take the yelling elsewhere.
Not sure when business will have me in that area again but despite the couple of negatives I pointed out, I will stay again.

Clean, comfortable room.
My issue is with the lack of even a complimentary cup of coffee or tea outside of the tiny percolator in the room.
We never use the in room percolator due to lack of the ability to tell if it’s ever been cleaned.
We just stayed at a Fairfield in Syracuse NY which provided a simple breakfast and coffee and tea 24 hours in the lobby.
So we’re paying more for less.
The Fairfield was just as nice and clean.
This property has decided to have a Starbucks. So no complimentary coffee or tea nor as much as a cup of yogurt.
I hope this is not a trend for all Marriott properties but just this property’s management.
Check carefully when picking a hotel if you’re interested in getting a bit more for your travel dollars.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Marriott International offers several different brands for different types of travelers. While Fairfield Inns do offer complimentary coffee and breakfast, Courtyard properties have The Bistro which serves Starbucks coffee for purchase. There is always complimentary coffee offered in your room, and extra coffee packets available upon request at any time. At our Courtyard, our housekeeping team takes pride in offering thoroughly cleaned rooms, which includes cleaning all nooks and crannies, including the single serving coffee makers. Like you said, make sure to pick out a hotel that offers all of the amenities you are looking for, and Marriott has many! We do hope you consider us if your travels bring you back to Portsmouth!

I had a late flight and a full morning, which made it impossible to try the breakfast offering but I still had a most enjoyable stay.

First of all, the location is about as convenient as could be. It is literally right off I-95 but also a short drive from the Portsmouth Central Business District.

The styling of the room was professional, a perfect choice for this business traveler who needed to crash for the night (after catching Sports Center on the modern television set which fits the room just right), spend a couple of hours on the speedy WiFi upon rising and hop in the comfy shower before zipping off to his next stop across the river in Maine.

I would stay at this property again in a heartbeat. It is a credit to the Marriott brand and I can't wait to see what the 2022 reboot of Courtyard worldwide has in storm for this gem.

Two dots for comfortable beds, and clean room (to start). The hotel is nicely decorated and seems well kept. The staff are the issue. They are the type to listen to you, then just ignore you after they walk away.
Don’t expect your loyalty status to get you anything here, I couldn’t even get my free fast wi-fi.
Room never got serviced, so I requested that they send up fresh towels while out to dinner. Towels never arrived.

We were tired of staying at another chain hotel in the area that had gone downhill recently so we decided to look around and try the Marriot Courtyard. We were glad we did. We booked the hotel for an overnight trip to visit our daughter who is a student at UNH.

The hotel was tucked away in a wooded area away from all the drama of downtown Portsmouth. We were greeted very warmly upon entry and noticed the gas fireplace was blazing creating a nice ambiance. There was a bar and a nice size seating area. The hotel was very clean and bright upon entry. Our room was on the third floor. Our room was clean, updated, smelled nicely, and had plenty of room to relax in. We even had a balcony with two chairs if we wanted to sit outside. The huge TV, microwave, coffeemaker, and refrigerator all worked to perfection. A big difference from the other hotel.

If we crossed paths with a staff member, we were always greeted nicely. The hotel was only a few minute drive to downtown Portsmouth and about a 15 minute drive to UNH. This hotel doesn't charge you $40-$50 a night for parking like many others in town do. The hotel was competitively priced for the area but cheaper than staying downtown. We enjoyed our stay so much that we went home and booked another stay for two nights at the end of October when I run the Seacoast Half-Marathon in Portsmouth.

They are well located just off the highway, rooms on the highway side will get some highway noise but it is not too bad. The rooms are cozy and the bathrooms modern and clean. They offer a shuttle service to the water front area which is handy. The service is good and the restaurant decent. We will stay here again.

We have always stayed in the main section of the city, but found that it was very pricey, so we tried this option and loved it. There was a shuttle which is most helpful and it is only a mile or so out of town, an easy walk if it was a different time of the year. Staff was very friendly, parking is free, there is a fitness room, pool and small restaurant.

Best feature of this hotel is location. It's well sited near highway exit just a few minutes from town so parking never a problem. But, dark and dated in lobby. Smell of (cigarette smoke?) immediately upon entering and throughout. Plus, internet down so check in was a problem (via pen/paperwork) for poor front desk clerk who was handling it best she could. Apparently not the first time it's happened. Price is right, though.
