Skybound and Hasbro have announced the upcoming G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set's Kickstarter campaign. The publisher also dropped the trailer for the Kickstarter exclusive, which will collect every original 1982 comic book series issue in four definitive hardcover compendiums.
Per Skybound, fans can now sign up for the mailing list to receive all campaign details and updates before its 6 a.m. PT launch on May 28. The publisher will announce stretch goals and campaign-exclusive products at the close of the campaign at noon PT on June 18. The G.I. Joe collections include every issue of the original 1982 series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, G.I. Joe Special Missions, G.I. Joe and the Transformers, and the out-of-print G.I. Joe: Order of Battle and G.I. Joe Special #1, across four compendiums with box art by the acclaimed Andy Kubert (X-Men) and Brad Anderson.
GI Joe Celebrates its Marvel Era
The original Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series is getting a reprint from Skybound Entertainment, allowing fans new and old to enjoy the Larry Hama series.
Skybound's description of the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set reads, "Featuring the iconic series writer Larry Hama (Wolverine) and a murderers' row of series artists, the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set presents the incredible heroes of G.I. Joe, the terrifying villains of Cobra, and the unforgettable stories that set them on a collision course. Choose your side! Will you stand with G.I. Joe or will you rule the world with Cobra?" Skybound will present the box sets in distinct G.I. Joe and Cobra versions for fans to choose a side.
Each G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero box set also includes a set of nine campaign exclusive Joe or Cobra Collectible Trading Cards from several top G.I. Joe artists, including Chris Mooneyham, Lee Weeks, Rod Whigham, Carlo Pagulayan, Paul Pelletier, Pat Olliffe, Ron Wagner, Dan Jurgens, and the iconic Hama. The publisher will reveal the first six cards upon campaign launch, while fans will vote on the final three cards. Previous Skybound campaign backers and mailing list members will receive a free Kubert Storm Shadow collectible trading card when they back the campaign.
