Mount Carmel College of Nursing Reviews
Rating 3.58 out of 5 128 reviews
Overall, I've liked Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Some pros are the small school environment and small class sizes. You really get to know your classmates because everyone in your grade takes the same classes together. It's also easy to contact your professors and get help when needed. The area around Mount Carmel isn't great but I feel safe around campus because of the security measures the college has in place. My only real issue with Mount Carmel is the cost of attendance, though the school does try to help as much as they can with scholarship opportunities.
Personally, I love Mount Carmel College of Nursing. The staff and faculty are really nice and want you to succeed. There are many study groups and tutors to go to with every class and they are also involved in the teaching too. Each class has a supplemental instruction, which is a study group that meets up once a week to answer any questions or to just study the material in class. Each class also has peer tutor review, where someone who has already taken the class and did well in, talks with the professor and comes up with a power point slide on what will potentially be the exam. The peer tutor meets a week for the test. These resources have helped me do well in my classes and also made me feel like the college cares about me and I am not just a number to them.
I have learned a lot from MCCN, and their student: faculty ratio is excellent. However, I have my qualms with this college. Don't expect to be able to plan any vacations or other future plans for the next four years; they give you your schedule for the semester literally a week before it starts. You will be signing up for classes less than a MONTH before you start them. For example, if you are waiting for the summer semester schedule to be released, it won't be until less than a month before summer. In addition, they have a zero tolerance policy for absences for clinicals. So not only can you not plan vacations out, you can't be absent either. I have also witnessed some instances of racism here. My peer was discriminated against here specifically by the older staff members and her grade even suffered. I would suggest this college to others, but not without warning them about these things first.
