Robert Adler Obituary

February 25, 1951 -

July 7, 2017

Robert Adler (Bob, Bobby, Bongo Bob) died unexpectedly on July 7, 2017. Robert was known for his big smile, infectious laugh, fun sense of humor, and for being an amazing friend.

Robert was born on February 25, 1951 in Highland Park, IL. He grew up in Westwood (Los Angeles), CA and also lived in Costa Rica, Panama and Eugene. He graduated from Uni High, received a B.S. degree from the University of Oregon and received a diploma from the Paralegal Program at Barclay College. He was an Eagle Scout and held several national smallbore shooting records. He was also Bachelor #2 on the Dating Game in 1969.

Robert was well known as the drummer in the 1970s for the Eugene bands Turkey Run and Slow Buck. He was also a member of several bands after his return to Eugene in the late 1990s. Robert was a proud "Dead Head" and attended hundreds of Grateful Dead concerts since the 60s.

Robert is survived by his wife Linda Jiler of Eugene, son Justin Adler-Swanberg, sisters Peggy Bahrman and Mary Lou Westmoreland, a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved mother Peggy "Tutu" Adler.

A celebration of life will be held later in the summer. Memories can be shared at www.never-gone.com. Feel free to contact Linda at [email protected].

A wonderful & unforgettable fellow who was also born in the winter of '51 and moved to Los Angeles from the Chicago area. Enjoyed playing in the West LA Little League w. him, his Dad being a fine coach and his Mom there every weekend to root them both on. He ran cross country in high school, was active in senior class event planning and then 'ran off' (in the best sense of the phrase) to Oregon with the best of them. Will always associate Eugene, OR with him, as will 100s of other West Coasters!

Robert Adler and his wife Linda Jiler and their dog Rio. My soulmate and love of my life.

Robert is my soulmate. He was so full of life, energy, love of all people and the most fair, non-judgmental human being I have ever met. He loved life, people and music. He was your friend for life. He always had a smile and a laugh for everyone. Robert was charming and well versed on many subjects, especially history, politics and music. He was also the only drummer I have ever heard of that didn't like to do drum solos and that kind of explains Robert, unique. A part of me died the day he passed and life will never be the same without Robert in my life. I miss him so much. Knowing Robert and being a part of his life for 24 years was an honor and the happiest days of my life. Rest in peace.

To the Adler family,I am so sorry for your loss. Jesus taught us to pray at Matthew 6:9&10 (The Model Prayer) let your will take place as in heaven also on earth. Soon when this prayer becomes a reality, we will never have to suffer such a loss again. May your heart be comforted with this promise and may God grant you inner peace to help you cope with your loss.

You were and always will be our Bongo Bob. You showed us all that it was OK to march to the beat of a different drummer. You were always sincere, loving, intense, caring, selfless, and basically a real fun loving guy! Our condolences to Linda, may you find the strength to cope with this terrible loss. Our prayers go out to you.

Bobby was always so full of life. He was the one that when challenges arose he just smiled and optimistically knew that there was a solution out there somewhere that he could tap into. I can see him now energetically playing his drums all the time beaming his joy. I will miss his fine nature and inticing goodness and he will undoubtably be sorely missed. Jane and I send our love to Linda and everyone else who cherished Bob.
