CROMWELL Frances "Dookie" Davis, 84, Frances Ward Davis Cromwell passed away Tue, March 15, 2016 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was born May 2, 1931 in Florence, SC, the daughter of Russell E. Davis and Frances M. Ward Davis. Frances grew up in Pawleys Island, SC. She graduated with honors from Winthrop College and the Medical College of Virginia Physical Therapy School. Frances married Russell Cromwell in 1955. They moved to Lexington, KY and she worked at Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children as chief physical therapist for 40 years until her retirement. She was also an adjunct professor of physical therapy at the University of Kentucky. Frances was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Lexington where she served as confirmation teacher for 30 years, altar guild, Daughters of the King, vestry member, first woman senior warden, chairman of the acolytes, and small group leader. She was also active in the community serving as PTA president, Girl Scout Leader, and band booster president. Russ and Frances retired to Pawleys Island in 1992. They became members of Christ the King Church where she served on the vestry. Frances enjoyed reading, going in the creek, traveling, family history, her cats and her grandchildren. In recent years, Frances had battled many serious health problems with grit and determination. Against the odds, she overcame obstacles which would have stopped a person with lesser resolve. She was a believer in the power of prayer and always kept her sense of humor despite the circumstances. Frances is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell R. Cromwell, a daughter, Marie Cromwell Lindsay and her husband Buddy of Pawleys Island, a son, John Russell Cromwell and his wife Lisa of Lexington, KY, a brother, Russell E. Davis, Jr. of Chelsea, AL, and seven grandchildren, Ross M. Lindsay, IV, Catharine A. Lindsay, Annelisa L. Williamson, Laura F. Lindsay, Sloan D. Cromwell, Beckett H. Cromwell, and W. Maclain Cromwell. A funeral service will be held on Mon, March 21, 2016 at 11am at the old church at All Saints Waccamaw, Pawleys Island. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waverly School Renovation Fund at Christ the King/Grace Church 10172 Ocean Highway Pawleys Island, SC, 29585. Our family remembers the Cromwells fondly, and we are sorry to hear about Mrs. Cromwell's passing. We are pleased that she was able to spend her last years at Pawley's Island, her home. I worked with Francis at Shriners in Lexington for many years. She was such a professional and so good with the children and their families. She was also fun, always having a smart remark about everything. I am saddened by her passing but find peace that she is at rest.

Dear Russ, Marie and Family, Dookie meant so much to me as a child, spending summers with the family in Pawleys. Deedee, my grandfather and Peter were our first introduction to the swash; have a photo of Doodle and me under the live oaks. A permanent reflection. Even though we're a state away, as adults the memories will never exit. My love to you all... from the North Carolina branch... kacky and walker campbell hammon

Mr. Cromwell and family,
I was so sorry to hear about Mrs. Cromwell's passing. She was a mentor of mine when I was in college and volunteered at the Shriner's Hospital in Physical Therapy. She actually wrote a recommendation for me when I applied to the Physical Therapy program. I went on to PT school and did a clinical rotation under her leadership. I am grateful to the Lord for her influence in my life.
I will be praying for you and your family. May you find comfort in knowing you will see her again in heaven one day.
In Christ's love,
Lisa Cleary

Mr. Cromwell, Marie, John and families, my deepest sincere sympathies on the passing of Mrs. Cromwell. She was always so kind to me as an awkward child. And her leadership in Girl Scouts has influenced my entire life. As some may know, Girl Scouts are to be prepared at all times....she taught this well. When I became a Mom, this really kicked it! The trunk of my car became a mobile kit prepared for everything, even down to finding items in there to fix parade floats! To this day Fred says why so much, I respond BE PREPARED! My prayers for you all, with love and hugs. I plan on being in that area for a several weeks stay and would love to see you both again and deliver some hugs in person. Once an Idle Hour kid, always an Idle Hour kid, no matter how old.
