“Life’s too short. I’m not.”
You might know her as a Tony Award–winning Broadway star who originated the role of Galinda the Good Witch in the smash musical Wicked. Or you may recognize her from her starring roles on TV—The West Wing, Pushing Daisies, and Sesame Street. At four foot eleven, Kristin Chenoweth is an immense talent in a petite but powerful package. Through a combination of talent, hard work, and (she’s quick to add) the grace of God, Kristin took Broadway and Hollywood by storm. But of course, into every storm, the occasional drizzle of disaster must fall, and Kristin reflects on how faith and family have kept her grounded, even in tough times.
Filled with wit, wisdom, and backstage insight, A Little Bit Wicked is long on love and short on sleep. It’s essential reading for Kristin’s legions of fans and an uplifting story for anyone seeking motivation to follow his or her dreams—over the rainbow and beyond.
Featuring Chenolicious recipes, Kristin's advice for young actors, and much more!

Told in many ways in parallel, more modern events transitioning to stories from early in her life and career, we get a sense of the woman who has one Tony and multiple nominations to her credit. (And the fact that it isn't more awards is a shame). Through stories of her early years, we see the family that gave her a solid base on which to build. We see the early luck and the early struggles that put her in the right place and the right time for her star to rise.
While she never gets into the private details, we do learn a bit more about her relationship with Aaron Sorkin (aka Mr. Writer), the controversies stirred up by her second CD promotional tour, and her decisions to pose for FMH. And yes, we get a few stories from her time in Wicked, her first TV show, and Charlie Brown.
This isn't an in depth autobiography. Kristin herself admits she's condensed stuff and at times combined people to protect them and speed the story along. I can certainly respect her keeping details of her personal life private, but at times the book did feel a bit light.
But I really did enjoy it. From the interviews I've seen, Kristin has always come across as a warm, friendly person, and that shines through in the book. I felt like she was in the same room with me, telling me these stories. And, being a fan of much of her work, I ate it up. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments as well.
Kristin's many fans will definitely enjoy this look at the actress. The book flies by much too fast.
