Though she's been humanized in recent depictions like Gregory Maguire's Wicked (and its subsequent musical), the Wicked Witch of the West is one of the baddest villains of them all. Her anger might be warranted (her sister was killed by Dorothy, after all), but her means are reprehensible. Not only that, but Margaret Hamilton's depiction of the character is terrifying. From her evil laugh to her snide manner of speaking to her murderous inclinations, it's largely thanks to Hamilton's acting that the Wicked Witch has become such an iconic villain.
