- Just absolutely marvelous! Packaging, sound quality, everything is top notch! It’s pricey for sure, however for fans of the music (in my opinion it’s the greatest musical score of all time), it’s a priceless product ❤️
- Hopefully this gets re-issued some time. Someone please leave a comment on this if it does ever get re-released. Thank you!
- Seller VineStoreGood is a scammer. Buyer beware. If the price is too good to be true that’s because it is. Don’t buy from them ever. Lots of scams on discogs these days.
- A pretty high quality release, sounds very good on my modest system. The packaging is lovely too, and the box is sturdier apparently than those of the individual complete recordings. For 20 to 30 euros you can own this exact collection as a very nice sounding three-CD boxset, so paying 500+ for it on vinyl now seems silly. It was already very expensive (around 200 euros) when it was readily available here in Europe, the US seemingly got a much better deal ($100-150)... Anyway, it's still a very nice collector's item, but not quite worth the current premium prices. My copy is pretty much perfect, except for a little bit of non-fill on Return of the King and a touch of surface noise here and there. Overall grade: 8/10
- Edited 3 years agoAlthough it isn't the complete recordings, this is a pretty nice way of getting the Fellowship of the Ring. I'm guessing that's why it's gone up in value quicker than the Two Towers and Return of the King complete recordings.
- Edited 3 years agoa nice release to be sure. I wish the "Lord of the Rings" on the cover was gold foil like the complete recordings sets, and the booklet looks kinda cheap, but the set as a whole certainly doesn't look bad. The box feels quite well-made, and the vinyl in mine sounds pretty good. recommended!
- Not bad, LP1 was very nosy with background needle noise (using a Tecnics SL-220 with a brand new 95ML audio technical Microlinear). Some cleanings improved it a bit, but not the best pressing.
- I'm surprised by all the negative reviews; mine sounds pretty damn good! Sure, it would've been nice if there were printed sleeves instead of plain black poly sleeves in the box (but at least they are poly lined!). And sure, the booklet is a little thin, but the music is incredible, the presentation is tasteful, the vinyl is flat and (mostly) silent and you get to own three double albums collected in a relatively compact and convenient box! I think the original price was steep but the prices currently going on discogs seem about right I think...
- For a premium release like Lord of the Rings you expect premium quality of the merchandise you buy, ar least quality that matches the amound paid for the product.
I found this boxset rather cheap in appearance. This is just a box with 6 LPs in it, housed in black anti-static innersleeves. There is a booklet with some background on the recordings. I found this very minimal.
The quality of the pressing is not very good. Some sides were very noisy, like they were regularly played since the 70s.. but these I bought on the day of release. Crackles, sometimes all over a side (like the whole side D, which contains the most wonderful music if you'd ask me). Pops on some parts.. but also some sides that were really clean.
Makes me hope that mine waa juat a bad one in the batch.
Made me get the Complete Recordings of each film on vinyl. On which I hoped that they might be of a better quality since they were really limited and expensive(app 200 eu). But no, the total (booklet, box, map of middle earth) by appearance was way better and more premium, but the coloured vinyl they pressed that on isn't very clean either. So or they release these just to collect and not actually play and price them for top dollar because the nuts will get them anyway? (Aint that just like me?) Or they really dont know what they are putting out there?
Best music for your money is just getting the Complete Recordings on CD. They sound marvellous; the orchestra comes to life.. there are layers, depths.. more colour.. it was like i never heard those pieces before. I am no CD man, these 3 soundtracks (and the Hobbit 3x) are litteraly the 6 only CDs I own.
