He reverted to the wing when he joined City and John Atyeo was one grateful recipient of his skilful crosses.
Fellow number seven Stanley Matthews made his much-anticipated and only visit to Ashton Gate for Blackpool in the FA fourth round on January 24th, 1959. In the event, Matthews was shackled out of the game by Mike Thresher though one of his corner kicks led to the Blackpool equaliser in the 1-1 draw. In contrast, the 42,594 crowd saw Hinshelwood on the City wing produce the man-of-the-match performance.
His short corner led to Bert Tindall opening the scoring for City. Wally was considered one of the best wingers in the entire Football League on his day and this was one of them.
The 1958/59 season was arguably Wally’s best ever. He made 162 City appearances in all competitions, including the Gloucestershire Cup, scoring 19 goals and assisting in many more.

His funeral will take place on Friday, December 21st (12.30pm) at St Peter’s Church, Selsey in West Sussex, P020 ONA.
