Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson is a character of The Originals novel series. He was born as an untriggered werewolf/untapped witch hybrid until he was turned into an Original Vampire by his mother. After he made his first kill, triggering his werewolf curse, he became the Original Hybrid, until Esther placed the Hybrid Curse on him, causing his werewolf nature to go dormant.
After traveling to New Orleans' French Quarter in the early part of the 18th century, he met Vivianne Lescheres and fell madly in love with her. He proposed and married her and she became the Queen of New Orleans.
Klaus is a member of the Mikaelson Family, as well as a member of an unnamed family of werewolves and witches.

- Klaus is a German variation of "Nicholas". From the Greek Νικολαος (Nikolaos) meaning "victory of the people". It's the name of a saint who is at the origin of Saint Claus legend. It is also a shortened name of Niklaus. In Ancient Norse: ᚾᛁᚲᛚᚨᚢᛋ ᛗᛁᚲᚨᛖᛚᛋᛟᚾ.
