I went to buy online at BHS but spotted two different websites – are they the same company or is one a scam?
Online confusion: Why are there two different BHS websites?
I was about to buy a lamp on the new BHS website but before I did, I had another search online and found a different BHS website.
If you check out BHS.com and BHSdirect.co.uk, they both appear to be using branding from the old high street brand.
One say British Home Stores under its logo, the other says The British Home Store.
Are they both the same, or is one a scam? I would like to know before ordering anything.
Lee Boyce, consumer affairs editor, replies: Both websites look like they could be from the old BHS chain, which sadly shut the doors on its final store last month after falling into administration.
Understandably, anyone visiting them could end up confused.
The BHS.com website is the official one launched by its new owner, the Qatar-based Al Mana Group.
It launched at the end of last month to sell a range of lighting, bedroom and bathroom products, with kitchen, dining and clothing ranges.
BHSdirect.co.uk, according to the 'about us' section of the website, is run by Buy It Direct, a specialist online retailer which is also using the British Home Stores name.
A spokesman for BHS.com said: 'There's a connection with the old BHS company that went into administration and BHSdirect.co.uk
'For clarity, the website BHSdirect is an entirely separate business to BHS.com.
'It is a website that was previously set up and managed by Buy It Direct, a specialist online retailer, which the old BHS company had a partnership agreement with to direct any customers to who were looking for white appliances, audio and electronic products.
'The agreement is not one that the new BHS.com intends to continue to work within and BHSdirect, will be taken down in the near future.'
Lee Boyce adds: According to the Buy it Direct website, it was established in 1999 with specialist shopping websites, such as Laptops Direct.
In 2009, Buy It Direct started offering white-label services to some retailers, including Debenhams and BHS.
A similar relationship was struck up with BHS, it seems. However, the new owners of the brand that was the High Street BHS now look likely to end that.
