Parent: My children started at CPA during COVID. It was already a very challenging time for them being remote and starting a new school. I appreciated the creativity and devotion of the teachers during that challenging time and it set the tone for when they went back to in-person learning. It takes very special people to be able to educate and mold children and the staff at CPA have exceeded my expectations! Senior: My overall experience with this school is not bad, but it could be better/there is for sure room to grow. The best parts about going to school here are the different kinds of friends I made, the different teachers I met, and the overall vibe of the atmosphere in the different classrooms. Also, everyone helps out one another when they get the chance. However, the worst parts (personally) is the "diversity" aspect of it, how extremely serious situations are handled by higher-ups/admin, and the communication between students, parents, teachers, higher-ups/admin, ect. Alum: It is a small-sized school. I had a great experience there. As long as you keep your grades up, you can go to college for completely FREE and graduate with an Associates A.A through their Early College Program. The teachers are very friendly and involved in the students education. TCS has a deep community culture and it really feels like a second home. The majority demographic is Black, African American, or dark skinned individuals. The student population is very diverse and there is a place for everyone. Zero tolerance bullying policy; I have never seen anyone bullied or harassed at this school. Even though TCS is a public charter school, student fights do not occur often at all. School admin and staff truly care about safety and wellbeing for everyone. The lunch food options have improved. Work-study option is available for non-college students. Niche User: It was amazing to me. There were more diverse students there than any other school where I experienced. The school may not had sports or music programs, however, they do lots of art programs and sometimes theater. The teachers were so good to me and treated me very well and that's when I learned that I was safe there. It was like another home to me. That school will always be a part of me for the rest of my life! I wouldn't know how to get where I am now, if it wasn't for those magnificent teachers. Senior: My overall experience has been a great experience and I have been here for 10 years. The administration and teachers here listen to all your problems as a student and as a parent, so your well heard. The school has a well diverted culture and they express them well throughout the school especially during an given month on the calendar. The school sports is at a D3 level but we are well spread out throughout sports like they have basketball, bowling, track and field, softball, football, tennis, lacrosse, and volleyball. Senior: My overall experience with the Academy For Urban Scholars was amazing. The main problem they have is being inconsistent with their rules and it made it unfair to a lot of students who did right. They also had bad organization, planning, and simply making announcements, there has been more events than I can count that were never announced, emailed or talked about until the day of and that cause a lot of students to miss out, they had no set emailing or notification system to make it any better and that caused a lot of problems for seniors who classes end early. Aside from their minor problems this is the first school I have ever went to where the teachers actually care about us graduating and our life at home. I have seen these teachers go the extra mile for the kids that I have never seen anywhere else. While every school has its flaws AUS lacks nothing when it comes to genuine education, love, support, guidance and career readiness. Going here changed my life and i wish I came sooner.... Niche User: Youthbuild Community high school is a great school to attend, The teachers and the staff are there to help you even outside of school as well. Being at youthbuild gave me the chance to feel optimistic and hopeful for my future. You can receive many opportunities for skills and the knowledge that you need for your career path. Obtaining certificates for your careers you want to get into after you graduate. careers such as health care, construction and Microsoft all while obtaining your diploma. getting started here is a great way to define and achieve your goals as you make it through life. before youthbuild i did not know if I would ever get a diploma, I did not know if i could accomplish my assignments, I had many challenges. but going to YouthBuild was not a challenge i had help from the staff and teachers and I am very grateful that i gave myself a chance to have a better future.
