I had a great time disliking this film in a packed theatre filled with elderly people who all seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. They went to the movie to watch a weirdly hot portly Frenchman cook beautiful food, and they got exactly what they wanted. My experience with this film was wildly improved by two of my fellow audience members. The first was the guy sitting behind me who was whispering the most inane running commentary to his entirely unresponsive wife I have ever heard. Sample sentences: “oh look, she’s chopping the mushrooms,” “that guy loves wine,” “now his hands are on fire.” He was brilliant.

Y’all are saying the movie is “bad” and isn’t “well written”, but like, isn’t that exactly what you want from an 18th century cooking romance-drama?
I’m also pretty sure this movie ended 4 times and one of those times was directly in the middle.
And remember when they pulled a Once Upon a Time in the West and just made the main character try and sexually assault someone and then just decided to not mention it after like, one more scene?
my parents do this thing where they will heavily insist we watch something only theyve seen, even though i rarely enjoy the movies they pick. and then if i suggest a movie they always scoff at my idea, even though they literally always enjoy what i pick. its really cool. like if you think todd and sue should stop making me watch these movies.
I loved this despite it being a fairly conventional drama. Like watching a warmly lit fairytale unfold in 18th century rural France. The characters have a little depth and the story is complex enough to satisfy. Feel good cinema.
It's a simple story but it's looks stunning because the color that they're put on set, costume and even the foods plus with good cinematography too. It's really bring enjoy and persuade you to feeling want try the food. But it's a bit serious and less dramatic tense

It's really well written with good surprises and there is a real effort with cinematography. The actors have a good alchemy too.
Ein Koch an einem französischen Hof im 18. Jh. wird entlassen, weil er gewagt hat, eine eigene Kreation (mit Kartoffeln, man stelle sich vor!! 😉) zu servieren. Gemeinsam mit seinem Sohn, der revolutionären Ideen anhängt, sowie einer geheimnisvollen Fremden, die unbedingt sein Lehrling werden möchte und sich nicht abwimmeln lässt, eröffnet er ein Wirtshaus, welches sich nach und nach zum ersten Restaurant für die gesamte Bevölkerung entwickelt.
Das ist eine nette fiktive Geschichte, die opulent ausgestattet ist. Viele Aufnahmen sind inszeniert wie Bilder aus der damaligen Zeit und sehen sehr schön aus.
Leider köchelt der Film aber zu lange auf kleiner Flamme vor sich hin. Das Gewürz durch die Liebesgeschichte wird nur wenig verwendet, der Geschmack bleibt daher fad. Auch…
